Time Spec: 1970's British Military Asymetrical Chronographs
For over a decade, four companies C Hamilton, CWC, Newmark, and Precista – supplied simple, sturdy, 30-minute chronographs to the British military. Their classic black, 2-register dials, workhorse Valjoux 7733 movements, and asymmetrical case design led to high usability and keep them popular and influential today.IntroIn the early 1970s, while the United States maintained and grew its military in response to the conflict in Southeast Asia and its cold war with the Soviet Union, the British government was in the process of reducing its armed forces in both size and cost. As a very small part of these austerity measures, the UK Ministry of Defense (MoD) revised the Defense Standard (DEF-STAN) that prescribed the design characteristics of military pilots' watches to allow for cheaper, commercially available movements to be used. Bought a New 44mm SuperOcean
Well I was just looking around my local AD and stumbled onto it. It was the only one in the case and I really like the orange on the dark dial. My wife likes it better than my rolex on me, which really surprised me. I have a smaller wrist and the 44mm size watch fits me very well. I know a lot of Breitlings have a polished band but I really like the brushed band with the sides of the case being polished. I must say that I'm completely happy with the new watch!
Perfect Patek?
I'm thinking about watch #2. Tend towards the sportier ones. 5712 is my current favorite Nautilus but I can't handle the day on face and not in a window. From a technical perspective is it hard for a manufacturer to put the date in a window? What is your perfect Patek? For me 5712 hits:Pros:Micro rotor with saphire backAmazing blue dialMoon complicationPower reserve complicationCons:Day on face of dial (not is a window)Small second hand (prefer centered second hand)So the closest thing to perfection for me is the 5960. It would be a stretch for me financially and for my comfort zone of actually wearing it. So sub $30K or $35K what is the best current Patek?
Strap options on a Submersible
Just picked up a 243 and it came with the OEM rubber strap. I wanted to get either aftermarket or OEM leather strap to dress up the watchWhat leather straps are you guys running on your submersibles? and as always a photo would be greatly appreciatedthank you in advance
