My First Grail Watch: Stephen Forsey Of Greubel Forsey
Welcome back to an original watches-dealer feature, "My First Grail Watch." In this series, we ask prominent people in the watch industry about the first timepiece that they lusted after. Today, we're speaking with Stephen Forsey, co-founder of independent brand Greubel Forsey.watches-dealer (ABTW): Who are you, and what is your relationship to the watch industry?Stephen Forsey: Born in St. Albans, England, I inherited my passion for the intricacies of mechanics from my father. From 1987, I specialized in antique watch restoration, which led to a position as head of Asprey's prestigious watch restoration department, and then furthered my horological education at WOSTEP in Switzerland. In 1992, I joined Robert Greubel's team at Renaud & Papi, where I worked on the most complicated mechanical movements. ?Then, in 1999, I chose to become independent. In 2001, together with Robert Greubel, I founded CompliTime SA, a company whose goal is to create and develop complicated mechanisms for
St. Dupont "Service Without Fail" RAID Watch
Here is some serious French testosterone in a watch. Made for or influenced by the special, elite operations branch of the national French police known as RAID. The highly secretive special force is interesting because they often recruit people directly from the public, as opposed to existing police or military personnel. The purpose of the group as part of the national police, is to combat and investigate major crimes and terrorism. RAID stands for "Recherche Assistance Intervention Dissuasion." In English, "Research, Assistance, Intervention, Deterrence." They seem to kick enough ass to get a watch made for them with their logo on it.St. Dupont make watches, among other luxury items, and will soon release a limited edition set of these RAID watches. The "Service Without Fail" part of the name is apparently RAID's motto. At first glance I like the watch. It is a bit "heavy" on the eyes, and does feature a extreme boldness, but in an appealing way. Although the watch does feature a des
World Series- Dave Roberts - AP Diver
I'm pulling for the Astros but the Dodgers manager , Dave Roberts, appears to be wearing an AP Diver- black dial. He's ok in my book. Here is an old pic I found. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Visit to Las Vegas AP Boutique
Stopped by yesterday just before my flight home. Unfortunately, I was the only WIS on my Guy's weekend away so I had to browse solo.I've read some differing opinions re status of this boutique but it's listed in the AP catalog as such...beautiful store. The only model I tried on was the white diver...nice, but looking a tad big for me.I was complimented on my 15300 by the sales girl and she made my visit pleasant. Interesting that I was the only customer in the store on a Sunday afternoon. Richard Mille and Heuer boutiques were also empty. Hope those shops do ok...
