Explaining What's Wrong With The Watch Industry In 2014
One of the things that is really important to us at watches-dealer is to discuss more than just what new watches are available and what we think you should consider when making purchasing decisions. No, we aren't going to tell you how to dress or how to be cool, surely you are doing fine when it comes to those things already. Rather, we'd like to talk about the watch industry overall, as well as things you might like to consider as collectors, or simply as people who like to own nice things. The luxury watch industry is a very complicated and interesting entity, and frankly, I've never experienced anything else like it. Despite the billions of dollars involved each year, the watch industry operates unlike most other major verticals out there - but that is entirely a different issue. More salient is the fact that, in many ways, the industry alternates between periods of feast and periods of famine. Essentially, they are "economic bubble chasers" and will seek to go after markets and demo
Historical Perspectives: Revisiting The History Of The Omega Speedmaster With The Astronauts Who Wor
The official status of Omega’s Speedmaster Professional as that of “Moonwatch” is widely known and celebrated amongst enthusiasts and certainly by Omega themselves. Unlike many brand partnerships, the relationship between Omega and NASA has yielded real, tangible benefits, with the Speedmaster itself making appearances in each of the manned missions to the Moon, and even contributing to one of the greatest dramas of the 20th century, helping the astronauts of Apollo 13 return safely to Earth after an oxygen tank explosion two days into the mission. To gain a more personal perspective on this relationship, Omega sent us to NASA headquarters in Houston, where we had access to astronauts Jim Lovell (Gemini 7, 12; Apollo 8, 13) and Tom Stafford (Gemini 6A, 9A; Apollo 10; ASTP). We heard the first hand account of Lovell’s heroism, and the Speedmaster’s pivotal role in Apollo 13’s return to Earth. 1 OF 26 “Houston, we have a problem.&rd
Please help me decide!!! Transocean
I am going to add a Transocean to my collection and would love to hear your thoughts on the models I'm considering.1. Chronograph, mercury silver dial, brown or gold strap, deployant buckle2. Unitime, black dial, brown or gold strap, deployant buckle3. Chronograph 1461, black dial, brown or gold strap, deployant buckleI like the black dials on the unitime and the 1461 but silver on the chronograph.
40th Anniversary Speedy Info Request
My brother in law, a big fan of the space program, has always wanted a Speedy. I've been pushing him, of course, as any good brother in law WIS should. He texted me yesterday saying he's getting serious and was interested in the 40th Anniversary model.1- Is there only one 40th Anniversary model? There are so many Speedy references but the only 40th I've seen has a silver sub dial 9:00, comes with a nice wood presentation box w/ commemorative coin.2- Any idea of the going rate [either from AD, if still available or NIB gray market]?3- Best suggestion to locate one?Your thoughts and/ or comments welcome. Thanks in advance,dP
