Hands-On: With The Hamilton Pan-Europ, A 70s Racing Classic Revisted
There is no doubt that one of the trends to emerge from Baselworld 2014 was brands reviving classic models with small modern updates. Usually this means a slightly larger case and maybe some new functionality, all while retaining the design traits that made the original a classic in the first place. Hamilton unveiled the Pan-Europ, a sport watch that definitely carries all the 70s style of the original chronograph Pan-Europ. Here we take a closer look at this affordable re-issue. 2 OF 6 The first Pan-Europ debuted in 1971 and was one of the very first automatic chronographs. It housed the legendary Calibre 11 movement (called the Chrono-matic by Hamilton) and hit all the style hallmarks of early 70s racing watches. There was the bold timing bezel with large numerals, bright colors, and the barrel shaped case, which you might recognize from the Heuer Autavias of the same era. 3 OF 6 The watch we have here is a revival of the later non-chronograph Pan-Europ. Making the Tissot Sea Touch Video: Tissot Has Never Looked So Bad Ass
We often think of watchmaking as a quaint, old world, manual operation - wizened men hunched over a desk, loupe planted firmly in the eye, carving out steel components with 19th century tools. While there still are watch manufactures that preserve the old ways of doing things, even the storied companies like Patek and Lange fully embrace the latest technology for parts of the process where it makes sense. Similarly, even mass produced pieces require some manual steps and the steady hands of trained watchmakers to assemble.Take, for example, the Tissot Sea Touch. The Sea Touch is a quartz ana-digi multifunctional dive watch from the Swatch Group's entry level marque. Though it's a thoroughly modern underwater tool, with electronic compass, depth gauge and dive log functions, as the following video shows, there are still some human processes involved in its manufacture. This video is a fascinating inside look at how Tissot builds a watch in large numbers. We see hands being stamped and l
Speedmaster Broad Arrow 3594 versus 60th anniversary
I'm looking really hard at both reissues of the classic first speedmaster, price considerations included, which would you gents prefer?Does the level of attention to detail to the original justify the difference in price?I'm not 100% convinced that one watch has the edge over the other.
Aqua Terra Chronograph GMT
I am a beginner in watches and lot of things gets me curious and asking question is my last hope when Google doest have answers.I have been studying all the watches on the Omega website, The Aqua Terra Chronograph GMT watch got me curious. What is the use of the chronograph function and how to read it when there is no tachymetre dial on the watch ? Am I missing something here ? Any education is appreciated.
5115R or IWC F.A. Jones/Platinum?
Admittedly, I know very little about these two but love the appearance of each. I know there are size differences, 18k vs Platinum as well as other significant differences in the movements, etc.Which would you select? Is there another Patek in this price range (mid-20s) I should also consider from the Patek lineup?
