Breaking News: Steel Patek 5016 At Only Watch Sells For 7.3M CHF, Becomes The Highest Priced Wristwa
If you’ve been following HODINKEE lately, you probably know that this is a big weekend in the watch auction world. And the watch that has probably attracted the most attention is Patek Philippe’s contribution for Only Watch, a piece unique 5016 in steel. Why? Because, as Jack alludes to here, there has been a widespread consensus that if the right elements came together, this watch could become one of the highest priced wristwatches of all time. 1 OF 2 Patek Phillipe for Only Watch 2015 ADVERTISEMENT Well, the hammer just dropped on the Patek and we have the result. After back and forth bidding between two phone bidders for the last 2 Million CHF, the watch sold to a phone bidder in English (probably from the UK, based on the fact that Paul Maudsley was the Phillips employee taking the bid), and the final price was 7,300,000 Swiss Francs (CHF), which makes it the #1 wristwatch of all time! Any Seamaster 2254.50 Mods?
So I've had my 2254.50 for nearly 12 years now. Recently, it's been replaced by an Explorer II as a daily wearer. I'd like to bring it back into the circulation but wanted to make a few changes. Any mods out there? PVD coating? A nice rubber strap? Etc.I swapped out for a fake-rubber strap that I'm not too keen on - any links to nice ones (e.g. a Rubber-B one). Just checking.
45.5mm Planet Ocean Chrono Review
Tried this watch on today, both with the rubber strap and the bracelet. First impressions are that is is very well made, and felt very solid - certainly in the same league as the Sub. Also, its massive!!! I have tried on various Panerai's and so on, but this thing just sits ON your wrist, with no attempt to follow the line of your wrist, as you might expect from a Panerai. This was good and bad. I like the boldness of it, but it looked a bit out of place on my skinny little girl-wrist! Both watches had the black bezel, but the rubber-strapped one has orange highlights on the face, which I think I liked a bit better. I don't rate the looks of the bracelet compared to say a Rolex Oyster bracelet, and so I think over-all I would opt for the strap version over the bracelet. However, as much as I have liked seeing other's ones on here, when it was actually there on my wrist it just wasn't for me. It just didnt do it for me enough and at that kind of cash, 3,150, you have to be 100%.We shal
