A. Lange & S?hne Names BMW’s Wilhelm Schmid CEO
German watchmaker A. Lange & S?hne has appointed Wilhelm Schmid as Chief Executive Officer effective January, 2011. Schmid, 47, a German national, has held several positions in marketing and sales over the last eight years for BMW. Since 2007, he has been responsible for sales and marketing for BMW South Africa. As CEO, Schmidt will be entrusted with further developing the Lange brand and its operations.
Bell & Ross WW1 & PW1 Argentium Watches
The last major Bell & Ross watch that we haven't covered yet for 2012 is the WW1 and PW1 Argentium collection. I believe Bell & Ross CEO Mr. Carlos Rosillo himself was wearing a WW1 Argentium watch when I checked out this collection among other Bell & Ross pieces. For me, this is one of the most curious models. While not limited in production, it is a very niche timepiece. It will no doubt be selectively produced and offered in limited locations. A very interesting watch that is still very much a Bell & Ross. What is Argentium you ask? It is a trademarked name for a special modern version of sterling silver. The name comes from "argent" which among other things, is the French term for silver. Argentium is a relatively recent version of sterling silver from the 1990s. Its most notable property is being highly tarnish resistant. Traditional silver tarnishes and must be polished frequently. For this reason I believe silver is quite rarely used for watch cases. Almost ditched my PO for a Rolex
AlmostI've loved watches since I was in junior high, and always wanted a Submariner. We made bonus at work this year, so I figured I would finally treat myself to the watch I've always wanted. The only problem was, when I went to the jeweler to try on a new Sub C No Date I was very underwhelmed compared to my Planet Ocean, the Rolex felt like a toy in comparison. I know heavy isn't always good, but the PO (and it's bracelet) just felt rock solid in comparison. I know some complain the PO is too heavy, so it's a matter of taste I guess. The deal breaker for me though was the glossy dial on the Sub C It just wasn't my cup of tea, maybe it was the jewelry store lighting that accented it, I don't know. Now the Sea Dweller on the other hand was beautiful, I just couldn't justify another $3,000 for a matte dial. So, probably to my wife's relief, I left without my dream watch, and felt even better about my PO. I've had the watch for over 5 years now and wear it 24/7. It's beat up, s
Jay-Z
Was that a Calatrava Jay-Z was wearing on SNL last night? (His watch was very visible in his performance near the end of the show.) if so, it appeared to be set to the wrong time.
Tool Watch Adventures
So, today I took my watch out of its comfort zone and it really earned its tool name. I was working out in a shady area out of convenience, not doing that again, and I just didn't want to leave the watch in my car or locker. I've seen other people workout in their Rolex and I wanted to try it out myself. What held me back wasn't really damaging it but being showy and coming off as obnoxious. Ended up getting a flat after the workout and had to replace the tire. Watch never came off. As nerdy as it sounds, I felt I made an extra connection with the watch today. On a side note, I hope the pic I'm posting debunks the idea that wrist size is everything. Apparently, my watch would just be too big for my wrist and I would come off as a clown by wearing one. I have a 6.5 inch wrist (albeit very flat). I'll let you decide if it's too big. I'm about 6 feet tall and fairly muscular. It's all perspective. Posting macro zoomed wrist shots of a watch on you really doesn't do anyone justice. Got to
