Baselworld Preview: Blancpain’s New Villeret Model
Prior to the opening of the 2012 Baselworld watch fair in Basel, Switzerland this week, Blancpain has offered up what it refers to as an “appetizer” to the main course of new models to be unveiled at the show. It is the first model in the brand’s Villeret collection to feature a flinqu lacquered dial, on which several layers of translucent blue lacquer are applied to create the effect of depth. Housed within the new watch’s 40-mm-diameter white-gold case is Blancpain’s ultra-slim Calibre 7663Q, which contains 244 parts and 34 jewels and has a three-day power reserve. This new self-winding movement powers the hour and minute hands as well as a center-mounted, serpentine-shaped date pointer. The running seconds are on a retrograde display at 6 o'clock. The under-lug corrector at 5 o'clock enables fast date adjustment. The watch has a sapphire exhibition caseback that shows off the movement, most notably the distinctive guilloch oscillating weight that is a
The Idiot's Allure Of The Rolex Daytona Watch
This is not a technical article or about any new watch release. Instead, this is about a look - a good look, but a look that you don't need to be a watch lover to understand or appreciate. It isn't just a look, it is part of watch fashion psychology, and something that draws people some refer to as that "accessory on your wrist." In fact, the reason why I used the term "idiot's allure," to describe the concept is because someone who knows nothing about watches will be attracted to this type of design. I am using the Rolex Cosmograph Oyster Perpetual Daytona watch (last time I will use this ludicrously long name for the timepiece). Now, you aren't an idiot for liking these Rolex Daytona styles, but it doesn't take a special person "in the know" to appreciate the look. The only difference is that people like you and me perhaps enjoy these watches for different reasons. Why is this even a question you ask? Who cares? Because I am always interested in why people like the watches they do. Wh
Bring a Loupe: A Spectacular Submariner, A Large Breitling Top Time, A Very Complete Memovox, An Unu
This week, Bring A Loupe focuses on a perennial favorite: vintage Omegas, from an intriguing Railmaster to an exotic Speedmaster. We will also examine one of the very first Rolex Submariners with crown guards, a reference 5513 with a flawless gilt dial. And to round things out, we have a couple of chronographs from Breitling and Universal Geneve, each with their own interesting quirks. This is your Bring A Loupe for January 8, 2016. An Early Rolex Submariner Reference 5513, A Stunning Vintage Sub With Glossy Gilt Dial 1 OF 12 This dial instantly tells you one thing: you are not looking at your average Submariner. This vintage Sub exhibits exactly what we love: a deep glossy dial and a fat case. The dial is marvelous, with a lacquer finish characteristic of the early 5513s. Until 1966, the reference 5513 boasted a glossy dial with gilt lettering ("gilt" referring to the golden color). Only after 1966 would the Submariners have the matte dials we described
Panerai on American shark....Great strap, good look, and extremely comfortable.
Just wanted to share another strap review. This is a Genuine American Shark strap purchase through Panatime. They say they only have a limited number of this strap. It 24-22mm is extremely comfortable and soft on your skin. It is suppose to be very durable and the texture on the outside is shak textured. Stitching matches face font, very cool looking. So far it is my most comfortable strap.
Rolex in water
So I've had my new Rolex Milgauss for a week. Told my kids it's completely waterproof, and now they want me to take it swimming in the ymca pool. How many of you actually take your Rolex's swimming in either pools or the ocean? Thanks!!
