Swatch Group & Comco: 10 Key Moments
As we reported in October, Switzerland's Competition Commission (Comco) has announced a decision to allow the Swatch Group, Switzerland’s dominant producer of mechanical watch movements, to gradually halt sales of those movements to companies outside the group in 2020. Here is a timeline of 10 key moments in the ongoing legal soap opera between Swatch Group and Comco.August 2002: ETA SA, the Swatch Group's movement-making subsidiary, announces that it will stop supplying kits of loose movement components for mechanical watches, called bauches, to third parties. It plans to reduce quantities gradually over three years and halt sales as of January 1, 2006. ETA says that the bauches business represents less than two percent of Swatch Group total sales and the logistics are much too expensive and complex to maintain such supply. October, 2002: Switzerland's Competition Commission (Comco) announces a preliminary investigation into whether ETA is abusing its dominant position in the
New NATO for the planet ocean
I was in Boston last week and swung by an Omega AD to grab one of the new NATOs they are selling. I think I like the combo. To be honest, though, I am pretty sure they sold me the size for the 45mm PO. Oh well.
Thoughts on trading 114060 for SD43?
Hey everyone-Been tossing this idea around in my head as to whether or not it's worth trading in my 114060 for a SD43. Right now my Sub is my one and only and my daily wearer. Not sure if it's just the chase but I can't stop looking up pictures of the SD43 and it's perfect proportions. Things I like about the SD43 are the increased wrist presence, the date and the better proportions. However, it's obviously quite a bit more expensive (roughly twice the price I'm guessing based on what I'd get for my trade and what the price point for the SD43 currently is. I was able to try on a SD43 a few months ago and remember thinking how much thicker it was than the Sub. Anyways, just wanted to see what everyone's thoughts were who may have done this already. New to Rolex and want to buy Daytona and Sky Dweller
A bit of about me- I have liked watches for a while, and didn't knew much about the mechanical watches until recently. I have owned quartz and digital watches all my life, and for some reason I keep losing them. The oldest watch I have is a Swatch Chrono. But, mechanical watches are addictive! It has been less than a year that I got into Mechanical watches. My first mechanical/automatic was a Seiko Alpinist (got it from Japan), and my second one was a Tissot (got it from online dealer, no manufacturer warranty). However, I got into mechanical watches after seeing the new the Rolex AirKing. I wanted to get that one, and then I moved on to DateJust 40mm, and I think both are great watches. But then I researched more and more and I now I am looking into getting the Daytona 116503 with black or champagne dial and get the Sky Dewller SS in Black or Blue dial (if I can get my hands on it in a year or so. The two tone SD in black is available but don't like that combination much). I'll buy it n
Day Date: Older platinum 36 vs new WG 40?
Hello all,This is my third post, and I already greatly appreciate the insights you all have provided. I've narrowed my decision making to the point that I've decided that I'd like to purchase a Day Date and really prefer the platinum with the blue dial. My wrist is about 6.5 , and I think the 36 will be fine for me. On the other hand, my old DJ sometimes seems a bit small, and I once owned a Daytona that seemed like a good fit. So, I'm open to a range of sizes. My budget will be in the $25-30k range, and that looks pretty appropriate for finding what I want in a 36mm platinum. As I look at the market, I see examples ranging from 10-16 years old. My question is how much difference a few years will make? Is 6 years newer worth another $6K if they are the same model number? Am I not thinking about some sort of high service costs that would be right around the corner? Also, I can't help but notice that I could get a brand new WG 40mm DD in the same price range from Takuya, and it makes me
