Tourneau Trains Students for Careers in Watchmaking
When the average person thinks watchmaker , they picture an older man in a white lab coat working in the mountains of Switzerland. Watch retailer Tourneau is challenging that image with a program that gives disadvantaged kids in New York City a chance at a watchmaking career. Company executives gathered recently to recognize the program's newest group of graduates.Launched last year, the Tourneau Watchmaker Program was the brainchild of Terry Irby, a soft-spoken watchmaker who manages Tourneau's service center, which is located in Long Island City in the borough of Queens, New York. Facing an ever-increasing number of watches needing service (currently about 600 per week), Irby needed to expand his staff C not an easy task in the United States, where qualified watchmakers are in high demand.Irby's idea was simple C partner with the Manhattan Comprehensive Night and Day School, also known as CDI, an institution that helps teens who are no longer in school get back on the right path. Royal Oak.
Love these Royal Oaks!
I'd like to...
thank everyone I've pestered for info last 2 weeks.Special thanks to Brian who baby sat me at the AP boutique and Wempe. The 5167 came in today and its still as beautiful as I saw it at the AD!I'm not saying this because I'm trying to justify the crazy purchase(my ex would've said.. 'are you crazy??? we could have donated the money to ASPCA).Design wise, I find this watch to be very 'clean' and well balanced. As others had already mentioned the way the light plays on the dial is unreal.. subtle but very unique!I had a difficult time of choosing this watch over the Naut. After looking at the 5711 for a while, there's just too many horizontal elements going on (dial and fin thingys on left side of case) which makes the watch look 'squat'. Its like heavier women should not wear horizontal strips. In any event, anyone know how to remove the pins on the clasp? Is it just a normal push pin?Cut rubber and re attach??Tingoh btw, the box the watch came in is almost worth the price of admission!
New Patek Philippe, but which one?
I am hoping to get a new Patek in the next month. The choices that I have gone for are two from the Calatrava and one from the Gondolo range. All are manual wind and imo simple but classic Patek's.See what you think and make a choice! 1) 5124G (Gondolo)2) 5196g ( Calatrava)3) 5196R (Calatrava)RegardsTony
