Montblanc is the Official Timekeeper of the 2010 Belmont Stakes
Montblanc has announced that it will serve as official timekeeper for the Belmont Stakes thoroughbred race on June 5, 2010 at Belmont Park in Elmont, NY. At 1.5 miles, the Belmont Stakes is the longest and most demanding of the Triple Crown races. During the winner’s circle presentation, Montblanc North America President and CEO Jan-Patrick Schmitz will award a Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec timepiece to the owner of the winning horse. Montblanc shares a historical connection to horse racing through its Rieussec-inspired chronograph. As the dedicated watchmaker for Louis Philippe, the last king of France, Rieussec made history on September 1, 1821 when he succeeded in recording the times of all the horses as they passed the finishing line to an accuracy of a quarter of a second. To capture the running times of the horses, Rieussec used a device in which he wrote time using two rotating discs placed beneath an ink-filled marker. By pushing the button on the device, the tip would com
Konstantin Chaykin Genius Temporis Single Hand Watch With A Twist
This is Russian watchmaker Konstantin Chaykin's latest timepiece, and they call it the Genius Temporis, which roughly translates from Latin to "the spirit of our time." That, however, doesn't particularly explain the functionality of this 16th century-style timepiece. What you have is the simple elegance of a single-handed watch with the ability to also know the minutes (on demand) when the wearer chooses.Single-handed watches are not particularly common, but they are popular among certain watch lovers. Long ago, it used to be that pocket watches only had one hand. That was mainly because they were simply not accurate enough to even display the minutes. There was a time when being accurate to 30 minutes a day was pretty good. The inclusion of a minute hand a few hundred years ago was a big deal, and really ushered in the era of modern timekeeping. Today, single-handed watches are less about considering the past, and more about the unique way you can conceive the day through the way tha
Introducing The Cartier Tank Anglaise: A New Tank Using Cartier's In-House Movement
We already showed you a new, super-slim tank from Cartier at SIHH 2012 in the Louis Cartier XL Slimline.? But, the Louis Cartier is not a new case.? And, while the Louis Cartier did answer collectors' calls for a Tank with a mechanical movement, it uses a Piaget, and not a Cartier movement.?Then, there is the brand new Tank Anglaise - the big story from the tank category of watches at Cartier 2012.? The Anglaise is the third model to be attributed to a particular region, following the Ame?ricaine and Tank Franc?aise.?? The case to the Anglaise is bulkier than the other two, but features a rounded, ergonomic profile and has a crown that is integrated right into the signature parallel brancards.? This watch will be available in three different sizes, in both mens and womens pieces, but the clear favorite is the large sized men's watch, as that is the piece that will use Cartier's excellent in-house 1904MC caliber.? It should be noted that the white gold version, as pictured above, is com
Diff ref for diver steel
I have a confusion here between diver with ref 15703ST and 15710 ST. To me they looks exactly the same have the same movement but why diff ref no? I heard they do some minor changes in dial and movement, but it still the same 3120 movement.
5711 as a full-time, all-day, everyday wearer?
Good day everyone,I've been struggling lately about a decision between a 5711 and a DD40 YG silver/roman.Truth is I prefer the 5711 but it's important to me to be able to wear a watch all-day, everyday, all the time. The DD40 is probably more durable etc (although the WR of the 5711 is 120m v. the DD40 is 100m).I'm a one-watch guy (except I wear a BR 03-92 on strap mostly in the winter).I wear a TT ceramic sub at the moment (which i'm going to trade). I sleep with it, shower with it, splash around at the beach, take it in the pool, wear it to yoga, etc. I wouldn't obviously re-pave the driveway wearing my sub (or any watch). What do you all think? Would I be expecting too much from the 5711? Is it too fragile? Am I putting the 5711 in too much danger of needing service (which I understand could take upwards of a year)? Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.Mike
