Timezone.com Founder Worries About The Fragility Of High Watch Prices
Why does it seem that all the watches we love are priced like a year of tuition at an Ivy League college? It wasn't always this way.For more years than I care to remember, I've been collecting watches. Also, being a fourth generation watchmaker and retail jeweler, I've had the privilege of being an authorized dealer for several high profile watch companies including IWC, JLC, Ulysse Nardin, to name just a few. I've also had the distinction of watching the death of the mechanical wristwatch in the 1970's, the birth and dominance of the Japanese quartz watch shortly thereafter, and the resurrection of the modern Swiss mechanical watch in the late 1990's. But even though I've been brought up in the business and have a historical viewpoint of the industry, I'm still sticker shocked by today's prices.Whenever I see a really great watch that I covet in a magazine, or on a great blog like this one, or in an uptown watch store, I'm always amazed at how expensive the watch is. In the past, I've

Seamaster 2254.50 or the current 212.30
I have decided to get an Omega Seamaster to use as my daily watch. And for several weeks I have been bouncing back between the 2254 and the current SMPc model - blue dial.I have been offered a 2254 from 2002 and a lovely preowned 212.30 from 2013.Both imo are great looking watches and fit my wrist nicely.Buying both is not an option, as I don't tend to buy two of the same style watches. Here's what I think, but please forgive my amateurish approach and lack of knowledge:2254ProsNice looking dialLove the sword handsBeautifully slim caseGreat lumeETA movement - so more flexibility when it comes to be repaired.ConsOlder watch and movement212.30ProsCo-Axial movementCeramic bezelnice looking dialCurrent model, made from the latest designs and technologyConsSits slightly higher on the wristThe gloss finish on the dialColour combination of the dateThere are most likely to be a few other pros and cons for either watch which I don't know about. This would be my only dive watch and its a possibili

Look at the watch Kevin Hart was married in!
Hello all! Although I'm not a regular follower of celebrities and the goings-on in Hollywood, I just had to post a quick screen shot. Actor/comedian Kevin Hart got married this past weekend and as many of us know, Kevin is a hard-core WIS! Well, the watch he was wearing on his wedding day is simply amazing. Here's a quick pic of the blinged-out Patek for you guys to enjoy. And P.S....her ring wasn't to shabby either!
