Rolex quality vs AP quality
Look away now Rolex purists! I recently had the very fortunate experience of trying on a few AP peices with the view of buying the ROO Diver and I'm afraid to say that personally I feel the quality of the AP's (and I tried a variety of pieces, RO chronograph, ROO Chronograph, ultra thin RO, and even a concept) all which seem by far better quality than any Rolex I have ever tried on and hate to say it but my GMT doesn't feel the same anymore after having an AP on my wrist. Would love to hear you thoughts and if anyone has had the same experience.
New Piece!
This arrived today!!! Another great transaction with DavidSW. I follow Rolex more than Omega and this piece only came on my radar last week. Haven't bought an Omega in 10 years, but I couldn't pass this one up. Love the Vintage look with the modern technology. No complaints so far. I wasn't sure what I was going to think of the PCL's, but since I also have a Sub I like the change.
Patek's platinum case finishing
Hello Everyone,i was wondering did anyone also noticed that the polishing finishing on the platinum cases are different then the gold versions ? Especially on some of the cases with sharper lines/angels like the 5070 and 5975 cases. Here you see a big difference on the WG and PT versions of the 5070. The PT even looks like a polished used case compared to the WG. You can notice this on every picture of the 5070P comparing with the gold versions. And here a comparison of the 5975P with the 5975G also less sharp polished. But if you compare it with Rolex Platinum versions, for example the Platinum Daytona compared with the WG version. The PT Daytona even looks to be beter finished then the gold versions.Maybe this has something to do with the hand finishing of the cases at Patek ? Because platinum is very hard to work with. But for a brand like Patek and the money you spent on the PT versions, you would think of a better finishing if the cases ?Still love the brand and most of the time the
Where next?
This is my collection so far:I want one more (I think I always say that!).I tried on a few patek models yesterday and I've ruled out the 5196g, just too slim and not versatile enough for me. I loved the 5396g but I would only get that if I traded in one of my current Pateks and I don't want to do that.I think I've got it down to the 5296g or 5711. As much as I used to like the sector dial 5296 I'm not as keen as I was so I think it will be the original dial. I had always ruled out the 5711 as I have the 5167 and I don't want something so similar however I do like the fact that it can be dressed up or down.Thoughts and opinions please.
