Interview with Steve Laughlin of Benarus Watches
It's no secret that the Worn&Wound staff has enjoyed the watches created by Raven and Benarus, as well as their accessories division Suppa Parts. The affiliated companies (by partners Steve Laughlin and Ralf Schreiner) are known for watches that draw from past designs as well as looks that are very original. In the past, we've reviewed the Raven Deep, Raven Vintage, Raven Deep Tech, and Benarus Megaladon and have been generally impressed with the looks, finishes and technical achievements. We had the opportunity to ask co-owner Steve Laughlin, who is based in Overland Park, Kansas, about the past of Raven/Benarus/Suppa and where the companies are heading. As always, keep on the lookout on the Raven and Benarus websites for the latest news on their releases, as certain models tend to sell out quickly with a devoted fan base. How do you and Ralf come up with your designs, which are inspired by the past yet possess unique facets that make it distinctly yours?Ralf and I will discuss our
Weekend Report: Watch (And Car) Spotting At The 2015 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance
As we told you last month, there isn't a better place to be for a car or watch fan than Monterey Car Week. We've already shown you some of the cars we saw at the contemporary-focused Quail Motorsport Gathering, and now we're back to talk watches. OK fine, we'll show you some cars from the headlining Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, too. This is a good old-fashioned modem-burner, folks. Unfortunately I won't be finding one of these under the tree this year (or likely ever!), but it was a delight to try one on at the AP boutique in HK. It is a stunning combination of colours and contrasts - absolutely beautiful.
Gift 5711, something seems off, but not sure what.
Hey all, First the story- I was asked what I'd like for my birthday and I said a blue dial 5980, because why not aim high? Disappointingly, they don't know any better and went for the 5711- a fine watch no doubt, but a bit boring. At least they were able to find a brand new one. Anyway, as with any shady Got this as a gift, is it real? story on here, it is not for sale (I am obviously looking to sell it, please PM me before any experts come in and out me) and just wanted to make sure that it was the real deal as the box was just a white cardboard thing. The crown seems SLIGHTLY different than what I've seen, but I think that small manufacturing variations are normal. I love the way that the dial glows over the bezel somehow. Can somebody explain the manufacturing process? Anyway if anybody has a serious offer, I'm looking for a 5980 and can send some cash your way. Comes with 8 paper plates, 1 knife and 8 forks.
