MMT 'Horological Smartwatch' Platform Ties Switzerland To Silicon Valley
Ever since the smartwatch became a thing, I have been preaching that companies need to pool their resources and talents to create something that consumers want. A new type of smartwatch platform called MMT (Manufacture Modules Technologies) was just announced out of partnership between a series of companies both in Switzerland and in Silicon Valley. This isn't a big deal just because it means the small but crowded smartwatch market has a new face, but because, in my opinion, it represents a wise step in the right direction of how the Swiss luxury watch industry needs to integrate itself into the smartwatch world. Welcome to the MMT electronic watch movement family and the Horological Smartwatch.Peter Stas, CEO of Frdrique Constant / Alpina, wearing the Frdrique Constant Horological Smartwatch Reference FC-285V5B4Who is behind MMT? It is Peter Stas of Frederique Constant/Alpina and Philippe Khan of Fullpower and MotionX technology which has been an innovator in activity and sleep tr
Roger Smith Hand-Made Watches - A Visit To The Isle Of Man
Series 2The Isle of Man is an island off the coast of the UK mainland that is not known for many things except perhaps the TT races and also as a place for lower tax rates. If, however, you are well versed with high-end watch-making, you will instantly know that this is the place where significant things have happened in the world of horology. This is after all, the place where the late George Daniels had his workshop as well as where his protg Roger Smith is currently carrying on and continuing his legacy of the English hand-made watch. My visit to the Isle of Man was something of a personal pilgrimage due to the utter uniqueness of the watch-making history that has transpired there. While the Swiss have dominated the watch industry in more recent times, it was from the mind and imagination of one man, George Daniels, celebrated as the greatest watch-maker since Breguet, where an overturning of conventional ideas had begun, establishing at the same time, an outpost in this unique plac
Advice on getting my first Breitling
Hey all, my name is Ben, and I have just started at the forum with the suggestion of my friend Kevin(isGQ). I'm new to the watch world (I just started with a Rolex Submariner as a gift in June) and trying to learn as much as I can, so I'll be asking lots of questions.I wanted something with a black dial that also had a good amount of gold to it, and I also liked the design of the classic Navitimer, so I'm thinking the yellow gold dial version with both a two-tone and black leather bracelet to switch up once in a while. I tried to get a sense of what it looks like, but couldn't find pictures of what I wanted, and a trip to the closest Breitling shop for me will be at least 2 hours, so I need a good feeling about what I want to buy before I go out there.Would the two-tone bracelet go well with the yellow gold Navitimer, or is my sense of fasion for watches not so hot, any thoughts? Also, what would be a good price for this watch? I did a search on amazon, looks like it'll go for about 7
Cal 9300 must be the noisiest cal out there
HiI have to say my DSOTM is the noisiest watch I have ever owned. The rotor sounds like a bag of marbles when it spins other than that it seems to be a very stable movement. Not sure if the Ceramic case transfers the noise better than steel. What are your 9300 noise levels like realizing that this is a very personal thing perception wise. New Seamaster 300M?
Was browsing in the Omega site and noticed the Seamaster 300M both black and blue, come with a new bezel (is it ceramic?) and no waves on the dial?
