ArtyA Son Of Sound: The High-End Guitar Watch
In the last year Swiss art watch brand ArtyA has transformed itself from extremely avant garde "creative" watches to something like this guitar head-shaped Son of Sound collection. The brand was once about just creating totally one-of-a-kind watches that combined the work of an artist and watch maker. The "piece unique" moniker was more a result of that production style versus an effort. For example if you take a steel case and "deface" it (as founder Yvan Arpa liked to say) with electricity and machines by hand, no two cases are going to look alike (i.e. "piece unique"). Thematically, ArtyA watches contained everything from fossilized dinosaur feces to human blood and actual butterfly wings.Meeting with Mr. Arpa is always (always) a treat. But the lack of cohesion in his collection or offer of regular models made ArtyA a very difficult brand to cover. Then the Son of a Gun collection?came around and things sort of started to change. ArtyA found a collection that it could really build
New Junghans National Partner for the USA and Canada
Junghans in Schramberg, Germany has announced that WatchBuys has been selected as a new and official national direct sales partner for the brand. This new relationship will provide WatchBuys with direct access to all watches in the Junghans line, as well as the ability to offer factory authorized service for Junghans watches.WatchBuys concentrates on German mechanical watches including many that we cover on a regular basis on worn&wound (Sinn, Nomos Glashutte, Hanhart, Dornblueth, Benzinger and others). We spoke to WatchBuys about this new Junghans relationship, and they were proud that one of Germany’s oldest watch companies (founded in 1861) had selected them for this direct sales partnership for both the US and Canada. We at worn&wound are also excited to hear of this news, as it means that we will now have access to Junghans watches on a regular basis to review, including the new models from BaselWorld 2016.You may see the collection of Junghans watches by visiting Watch
Seamaster 300MC: A few more thoughts....
Although the watch is thick, it wears well. I was concerned the height would prevent this watch from easily sliding underneath the cuff of my dress shirts, but that has not been the case. And, the bracelet and clasp I initially believed to be heavy and bulky are, in fact, the perfect counterweight to the watch case. I have 6.5” wrists, and I don’t think the 300MC is too much:What amazes me most, however, is the timekeeping. Sure, we could all have a watch more accurate than any mechanical on the market if we simply bought a Quartz. And, my Rolex DateJust I and Sub 114060 are both within COSC specifications. This Omega, however, is something different altogether. Over the past three days of wearing the watch, I cannot discern that it has lost or gained a second. This “slow-beat” 3.5 hertz movement has impressed me. I had—and still have—my doubts about the co-axial hoopla. It seems overly complicated. For example: If the co-axial movement is
Basel 2018 Timeline Refresher
So Basel starts Thursday 3/22 (although there may be a press day on Wed 3/21 at nights?).That's roughly 34 days from now. With a lot of companies, we will begin to see Pre-Basel introductions of new models. With Rolex, not so much.Maybe a few cryptic teasers. When will the information be available to the public? Will Rolex update its site first on 3/22 or will people who visit Basel have to post on our forum to let us know what models are new (even if they post pics weeks later)?
