At The Bench: The Restoration Of A Seiko 6139-6005
We all know that an Omega was the first watch on the moon, mostly because Omega won’t let us forget (ever). However, the first automatic chronograph in space was the far more humble and less publicized Seiko 6139-6002, now known as "the Pogue." This is because Colonel William Pogue brought his aboard on Skylab 4 and Omega makes a watch to commemorate that mission, naturally. This watch made its way up to space without any authorization, making it a bit of a rebel amongst the space-watch elite. It is also the most affordable mechanical watch for those who want to feel there is something historically “spacy” about their watch, and it was also one of the first automatic mass produced chronographs, which isn’t too shabby either. (It first came out in 1969, at about the same time as the Zenith El Primero and the Heuer/Bruen/Hamilton caliber 11, and was the first full rotor, vertical clutch, column wheel controlled automatic chronograph ever.) SeaWolf: Cobra yellow or Volcano Black -- your thoughts?
Even since I sold my SteelFish, I have been lurking at the SeaWolf, however, I cannot decide whether to get the Cobra yellow version or the Volcano black (batons). I love the look of both watches, even though they do give out different signals.I am worried that the Cobra yellow version will be too colorful to wear at e.g. work (office, research), but on the other side I am worried that the Volcano black version will be too conservative (dull/boring). Also it should be mentioned that I have never had any colorful watch (the closest is a white/silver faced SteelFish), and in my current 'collection' I have a Panerai 305 and a Planet ocean - both have black dials. What are your experiences with the two versions of the amazing SeaWolf? Pros and cons? Thanks
Happy Thanksgiving! Moderator Question?
Is the sharing of negative experiences with ADs now a prohibited area of discussion? I was also wondering if controversial threads were now subject to removal in there entirety, and if so what is the criteria for removal?I just want to understand the rules to decide how and if I should participate. I fully respect that it is the moderators forum and your rules to establish and enforce. That said given the volume of PMs I have gotten I know that I am not alone in my current state of confusion.Thank you and once again Happy Thanksgiving all!Lastly, I would hope that an honest query won't get my banned as I truly enjoy the forum.
Calatrava vs Journe vs ALS1815
Happy Holidays! Here is my dilemma:I have a Rolex Seadweller as my everyday watch. I am looking to get something in the category of a sporty dress watch and take my collection to another level by adding one of the above. In Patek looking at a calatrava 5296 sector dial in either white or rose goldVsFP Journe Chronometre BleuvsLange 1815 time only 38,5mm in white or rose gold.Any opinions??
