IWC Joins WatchTime for Ingenieur Launch Event at New York Boutique
Last year, IWC Schaffhausen opened its flagship boutique on New York’s Madison Avenue with a celebrity-filled gala. On Tuesday night, the boutique played host to the United States launch of the brand’s re-tooled Ingenieur line of sports watches, co-hosted by IWC and WatchTime. The evening drew more than 50 guests, including watch collectors and diehard fans of the brand, both to experience the boutique’s unique ambiance and to view the new Ingenieur watches, unveiled in Geneva at the SIHH watch fair back in January. ( covered the first of the new models, inspired by the brand’s new partnership with the Mercedes Petronas racing team, the Ingenieuer Chrono Racer. For photos of other watches in the revamped Ingenieur collection, check out Alexander Linz’s SIHH report on IWC at our sister blog, Watch-Insider.)WatchTime editor-in-chief Joe Thompson spoke briefly to the crowd to introduce IWC’s North American president Gianfranco D’Attis, who was rais
VicenTerra Luna Watch
Are you ready to support the semi-crowdsourced VicenTerra Luna watch? The last time I heard from the very-boutique Swiss watchmaker VicenTerra was when the watchmaker in charge was thanking me for writing about his first watch, the GMT-3 back in 2010. Back then their first watch could be had for an incredible deal (comparatively speaking) if you were one of the first to order it. Regular price was 15,000 Swiss Francs but if you were one of the first, the price of the VicenTerra GMT-3 was only 5,000 Swiss Francs. That of course was assuming they had a minimum order requirement - and apparently they did. Now, almost four years later, VicenTerra released word of their second watch, and it will be similarly based on a pre-order model. The deal isn't as sweet as before, but the watch is arguably more elegant and beautiful, even though the theme is the same. The watchmaker behind the GMT-3 and now the Luna is Mr. Vincent Plomb. In addition to being a rather impressive watchmaker, Vincent is a
Sock Drawer yields another AP Commoner
This is the first AP I bought. I read on line about an Arnold Schwarzenegger fundraiser auction held in New York to benefit inner city schools. Arnold contacted celebrities who picked their favorite AP model. AP customized each watch with an engraving of the celebrity's signature. I was thinking how cool it would have been to attend that event when I saw an on line ad for one of the watches. It was selected by the California singer Brian Wilson. I bought it. Then I got an email from Al Armstrong of Armstrong Rockwell asking to buy it from me. That's how I met Al. He was kind enough to send me CDs of Beach Boys albums to go with the watch!Jules Audemars chronograph that I like for its globular shape--sort of like a tiny gold pillow or pincushion. Surfs up!
Colt Chronograph Bracelet
I'm looking for a replacement bracelet for my Colt Chrono, it shows a reference number on the bracelet of 861a but I cannot find this anywhere. What professional series bracelet would work?
Anyone ever compare movements of a Speedmaster vs. IWC
As Omega aficionados, what are your opinions on IWC Flieger Chronos particularly model 3706?I have to say, the movement of the IWC is just amazing. The gold plating, polished surfaces and deep blue screws completely blows-away a Daytona 16520, & Omega Speedmaseter day/date. I know IWC is trying to get a stronger presence in the US. The IWC store is set to open in March. Now that Omega has its own in-house movement (semantics), will there always be a stigma with IWC because they start with an externally manufactured base movement?Does Omega see Rolex to be their only threat?
