In-Depth: The Story Behind The Name 'Glashtte Original'
The road to Glashütte is long, winding and beautiful – just like the eponymous brand, Glashütte Original. HODINKEE recently visited Germany to learn more about how Glashütte Original is so intrinsically linked to German horological history. From the early 19th century with Glashütte’s four founding watchmaking fathers to the postwar German Democratic Republic (GDR) period, to the modern watchmaking renaissance we know so well today, watchmaking never stopped in Glashütte. Join me on a trip to Germany to learn what the “Original” in Glashütte Original really means. 1 OF 25 Road sign, entering Glashtte. Rough translation via Google: "Here lives the time, Glashtte wishes you a pleasant journey." History There is no better place to learn about the history of German watchmaking than the German Watchmaking Museum Glashütte. Reuniting w an old friend
Had my AP in for svc as it was running slightly fast. Watchmaker noted that it needed additional lubrication in several areas of the movement. So they basically cleaned and serviced the movement of my 15400. Just got it back after almost 4 weeks. Love at 1st sight. Had to laugh at the vacuum sealed capsule - ImageUploadedByTapatalk1374606247.436599.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1374606089.770602.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1374606106.155885.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1374606123.489997.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1374606135.288602.jpg
Speedmaster Timekeeping - Seriously Impressed!
Hey all,So, I've had the Speedmaster Pro now for nearly 5 months - thoroughly enjoying wearing it, and it's been incredibly hard to get off my wrist! Love the size, love the weight, love its understated charm. And I now have another reason to love it! I don't normally pay too much attention to timekeeping, as long as I'm not having to alter the time every other day, I'm reasonably happy! I don't know what prompted me to do it (probably boredom during a quiet moment), but I thought I would set it to GMT, and see how it was getting on. Well, several days down the line, it has gained just 1 second. 1 second for a non-chronometer rated watch! I was seriously, seriously impressed - I guess Omega must have sprinkled some fairy dust on mine when they were regulating it Just thought I would share,Chris
Jubilee on Speedmaster Pro

China's impact on the luxury watch market
I am curious what the impact of the falling Chinese economy will have on the luxury watch market. It is clear that with the falling Yuan, foreign goods are going to get more expensive for them and probably throttle the demand for luxury goods. Are we entering a period where watch prices are going to get impacted? Will the luxury watch companies cut production or reduce prices further? From Bloomberg: The response to uncertainty in the Chinese economy is falling sales. Luxury automakers have been offering discounts of up to 30%, Bloomberg News found recently.
