Opinions and advice needed please
Those of you that have been kind enough to read my recent threads will know that I am in the process of reducing my collection of Rolex from 6 to 2 or 3....the idea being to use the proceeds (give or take) to enter the world of AP and PP.My purchasing has been speeded-up by the recent actions of the Swiss National Bank and the impending/already happening price increases.....and I am delighted to say that I have an AP 15400 arriving in the next few days (can't wait!)I am on the waiting list for a PP 5167 at the Patek salon in Geneva, which should arrive around April/May. However....Whenever I look at wrist shots of the 5167 I love it, and many TRFers over on the Patek forum write how wonderful it is. The few times I have tried it on in Geneva I have not been quite so sure. I have found it to be very light in weight and barely large enough for my tastes. I am also unsure about the numerals. I only wear sports watches (ie. dress watches are not an option) and the Nautilus simply doesn't d

Beater or Project? Help with a 105.012-65
So I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised by what I arrived. It was billed at as a Speedy Reduced, and had awful pictures, but I figured it was worth a roll once I learned it was a 105.012-65 with a c.321. Plus, the added bonus, it came with a mint 1499/842 bracelet that once I resell, should get my cost basis very low.Yes, it has issues, some will be easy to correct, and some will take time, but overall, it has a pleasing look, and runs like a champ and the movement is buttery smooth.First things first, the movement is a 24,00x,xxx serial cal.321 that is appropriate for the 105.012-65 case, so I don't think it is a franken. The case back has 4 service marks, and based on the lines of the case and 50 years, it has seen numerous polishes, and will most likely need someone to reshape if possible, but I am planning on leaving it as-is for the moment. The case back has no seamonster engraving left. The dial, per Speedmaster 101, is the incorrect, yet factory, early painted logo c.
Well, I finally came over to the darkside
I visited SLRDude in Dallas last month and saw his 422. We swapped for the day and he wore my AP 15400. Both enjoyed the trade and seeing the 1950s case IRL won me over. After that, I've been trying to decide between the 422 and the 372, both are beauties. But in the end, the domed sapphire and the PR on the back of the movement with the 422 sold me. So today the doorbell rang and UPS made me a happy man.The jump hour and seconds reset features on the 3001 movement made me decide I could flip my Blancpain Trilogy GMT for this one, although I jumped the gun a bit by buying before flipping.Sent from my iPad (so I blame autocorrect for the spellin' errs)
Which Rolex to add???
My humble collection is need of a Rolex so I'm asking all you fine folks to help me decide on which model to add to this trio. I've owned several Rolex refs in the past....116610LN, 114060, 116710LN, 116710BLNR (twice!), and the Daytona (black dial). But just none ever stuck for various reasons (didn't work with the current collection, got bored, didn't work as a one watch collection, etc). I've even considered adding a ref that I've owned before as maybe it would work within the current SOTC. But if I were to add a ref I've never owned before, a TT sub is high on my list as well as the 116610LV. Possibly even the new Explorer I? Thoughts, suggestions, recommendations, comments all welcomed! Thanks in advance.
