Confrrie Horlogre Hublot Presents “Liberty”
When formerly high-flying Swiss movement manufacturer BNB Concept sunk under the weight of its accounts receivable in January, Jean-Claude Biver swung into action, bringing BNB’s managing director Mathias Buttet and about 30 of his watchmakers to Hublot. Biver also acquired BNB’s entire machine base. These decisive steps place Hublot among the few brands that can independently design and produce even the most complex movements in-house. The group’s first new creation was shown at Baselworld. While at BNB, Buttet launched Confrrie Horlogre, a brand designed to allow talented young watchmakers to create the timepieces of their dreams. This concept will continue under the banner Confrrie Horlogre Hublot, and at Baselworld the group unveiled “Liberty” or Autant en emporte le temps, a reinterpretation of the pocket watch in the form of a gun cartridge, housing a tourbillon. The piece can be worn on a bracelet or as a pendent. Technical specifications appear
CX Swiss Military 20,000 Feet Diver: Deepest Diving Mechanical Watch Ever
People have funny dreams. Some people have dreams of making watches with incredible water resistance. This Swiss Military 20,000 Feet Diver watch was a dream to do just that; create a mechanical watch that can survive just that, 20,000 feet under water. Not just any mechanical watch, but a chronograph, which is harder to keep as water resistant. The watch was made, it survived the pressure chamber, and it got awarded the word record. The 20,000 Feet Diver defeated the record Rolex set in 2008 with the new DeepSea Sea-Dweller watch by about 50%. It is rather cool that you can buy a Guinness world record holding watch. The story started in 2005 with Swiss Military's 12,000 Feet CX Diver, which was the deepest diving watch of its time. The 12,000 Feet watch was an automatic, but not a chronograph. Though impressive and record breaking, it just wasn't enough! "We Must Go Deeper!" Swiss Military Watches by Charmex had the drive and skills to make it happen, so development began on something
Historical Perspectives: Meet The Very First Smartwatch: Behold The HP-01, from Hewlett-Packard
Throwback To The Past: it is 1977, quartz watches are still less than 10 years old; it's the year Star Wars hit theaters for the first timeand you are actually looking at, not a piece of science fiction, but what is nothing less than the most technically advanced wristwatch ever produced. Whether you love or hate what electronics have meant in watchmaking, there's no doubt that the development of electrical and electronic timepieces, from very early electrical pendulum clocks of the early 19th century to the first quartz clocks of the 1920s, to experimental electromechanical watches in the 1950s and '60s, changed horology forever. Today the word "smart watch" is one we all know, but this was the very first of that breed, from nearly 40 years ago. Whatever you may have thought the earliest smart watch was, I bet you were not expecting this marvelously geeky instrument (especially not from a vintage enthusiast who covers your weekly Bring A Loupe!). Let's review
Pondering... my first PP (2)
Hey guys, I got good advice from you on my last post, and I did some serious follow-up research around jewelery watch shops in HK. Got some (perhaps too novice!) questions, but appreciate if you can shed some light..1/ Am surprised most of the shops I visited are not AD. Is it generally preferable to buy from AD - though I suspect they will offer less discount?2/ What's the standard cash price discount i can expect off listed price? Thanks!
Can you recommend an entry level PP watch for man?
New to this luxury brand. Thanks.
