Close-Up: Baume & Mercier Promesse Ladies’ Watch Collection
Baume & Mercier has been turning to its extensive watch archives to inspire its recent men’s watch collections, such as the Clifton. Last year, the Swiss brand launched a new watch line for ladies that takes its aesthetic cues from past models. The new Baume & Mercier Promesse, now in stores for Mother’s Day, is influenced by a classical model from the 1970s.Baume & Mercier’s history with women’s watches stretches at least to 1918, when the founding duo of William Baume & Paul Mercier began creating jewelry watches in the Art Deco style of the era. The brand introduced the influential Marquise ladies’ watch, with a bangle bracelet, in the 1950s, and went on to introduce several award-winning models in the 1970s, including the Mimosa, Galaxy, and Stardust. The 1970s also spawned the ladies’ watch model that most directly influenced the design of the new Promesse collection, which is characterized by the juxtaposition of an oval-shaped b
Home Needed For Foreign Seiko Credor GCLL997 Moonphase Spring Drive Watch
A sick thing happens when you are involved with watches too much. You begin to anthropomorphize them to a degree; at least I do. Or in some instances the effect is less than anthropomorphism, but an animal-pomorphism. So I am treating this watch like a dog in need of a home. Only the watch will live a lot longer! And does not shed.Credor is Seiko's ultra high end brand. They even have a $70,000 watch that I will discuss in the next few days. That's right $70,000 for a Seiko. Seiko's Spring Drive movement found its way into a few Credor watches, with this ref. GCLL997 Moonphase watch being a prime example. Style is similar but distinctly different than that of the Grand Seiko or Seiko Spring Drive watches that typically contain the movement. Further, Credor watches have never, and will probably never see American soil. At least from an official distribution standpoint. So right now, straight outta Hong Kong comes this splendid number that needs your love. That's right folks, this immacul
Maurice Lacroix grabs attention with an applied Superluminova raised corner
However, the undeniable highlight of the dial is the display of the hours. They are indicated by a white square with geometric wheel, a revolutionary phenomenon in the world of watchmaking. Enabled by an another wheel, created in the form of a clover leaf, it rotates regularly. It grabs attention with an applied Superluminova raised corner, which is used to indicate the hour.
Introducing the Breitling Transocean Chronograph 1915, A Mono-Pusher Column Wheel Chrono With New In-House Caliber
While we're die-hard vintage Breitling fans, we can recognize good development when we see it. A couple of months ago we reported on the Breitling Transocean Chronograph. That model hankered for its roots and introduced a vintage theme and a simpler two-register layout. The new Transocean Chronograph?1915 takes that development?a step further by introducing a new dial design, new case and, most importantly, a new manufacture caliber.?The Transocean 1915 starts with a 43 mm by?14.6 mm case in polished stainless steel. Instead of applied indexes like its predecessor, the Transocean 1915 has printed Arabic numerals. Two registers, arabic numerals and a push piece at 2 o'clock-many?HODINKEE readers should be thinking "montbrillant" (hence 1915, before Breitling introduced the second pusher in the '30s). 2 OF 3 Naturally, we could do without the date, but the narrow window doesn't seem to distract from the dial as much as date windows can. Moreover, maybe you're a pilot or som
Seamaster 300MC Titanium
Have had this one for a couple of weeks and haven't had a chance to take pics. What can I say...I'm in love. The blue dial is different than the typical black dial diver and the titanium case disappears on the wrist. If you haven't tried this on, do so. It is a classic beauty. No complications to muddy up the dial and an adjustable clasp for all-weather conditions.
