Watches NEWS
BEST FROM: watches-dealer & Friends July 3, 2015
As you might have guessed from the featured image of this post as well as the image above, I'm a huge fan of A. Lange & S?hne's Datograph. In-house chronograph movements are nothing to shout about these days, but rewind the clock to 16 years ago, and they were rare. In fact, the caliber L951.1 in the first generation Datograph was the first all-new chronograph movement in years. The second generation model presented in 2012 is, to me, much more practical to wear. The power reserve has been significantly increased from a paltry 36 or so hours to a much more reasonable 60 hours. The case is bigger too, at 41mm, but the dial has been nicely filled up with new baton markers and the power reserve indicator at 6 o'clock. And if you think the dial is pretty, brace yourself when you flip it over: the caliber L951.6 is a masterpiece. And new this year is the long awaited rose gold model with a black dial, and I think it looks absolutely super. The A. Lange & S?hne Datograph aside, we are
Rolex Sea-Dweller 4000 Ref. 116600 Watch 2014 Hands-On
Have you been waiting for a new Rolex Sea-Dweller? Among a series of new models, Rolex has announced a new version of their famed professional diving watch, the Rolex Sea-Dweller. Carrying the new reference 116600, the 2014 Rolex Sea-Dweller sticks very close to the look and feel of past iterations of this historic diver with very close ties to the Rolex Sea-Dweller 16600 which was discontinued in 2008. The Rolex Sea-Dweller was originally launched in 1967 as a response to the expanding world of saturation diving. Thanks to input from the US Navy (via the SEALAB II program) and French Comex divers, Rolex designed a watch that was capable of withstanding extreme pressure and expelling the helium gas that can seep into the case during a saturation dive.An excellent example of what people mean when they say "tool watch," the Rolex Sea-Dweller is is the stuff of dive watch legend, and Rolex didn't mess with the established formula for this updated version. Still sporting a 40mm case in 904
Bad Repair advice, common practice...?
I had some minor work done on my Rolex at a AD recently. One day when I picked up the Rolex I asked if the repair guy (watchmaker A) could fix the chrono function on my Omega Seamaster Olympics edition watch, which did nothing when I pushed the pushers. I gave it to him for a few minutes, he came back and said that he needed to send it out, as he wasn't familiar with the movement on that watch, and furthermore would have to send it out to Omega. He had it open for about five minutes, and the chrono still didn't work. I then took the watch to a trusted contact (watchmaker B), he looked at it for one minute and then asked if someone had recently worked on it. He indicated that someone had turned an adjustment screw all the way open, which had further complicated the problem. He fixed it in about two minutes applying the appropriate adjustments without changing any parts.Watchmaker B is certain that watchmaker A knew exactly what he was doing, as the movement is a very common chrono movem
Photos of new purchase.
Today I have had chance to take some photos of my new Aqua Terra 2012 Olympic Special Edition, which was a un-planned purchase after a visit to My AD to supposedlly cancel my long in coming Speedmaster. I just love Omega watches and every time I go near them I have to buy one!!!!! Hope you enjoy them. Alan
