Six Watches I Want Them To Make Again
Tiffany & Co. Streamerica Watch. Credit: WatchUSeek member slin-nycIf there has been one major theme to recognize over the last five or so years in the watch industry it is the rise of the retro-revival watch. What does that mean? It means that a love of "vintage" and celebrating tradition has swept over the entire industry. It means that to a large degree the watch design of today is influenced by the watch design of yesterday, and it also means that popular brands are releasing modern versions (exact or updates) of classic models. This latter practice isn't new and from the early 1990s you saw brands "re-releasing" classic models often with modern cases and movements. This continues today and each year many timepieces of the past in some form or another make a return. If you've been following watches for any length of time none of this should be news to you. Even though some of history's most popular watch models get new life these days, not everything we lust for will or can be r
Affordable Vintage: Hamilton Valjoux 7730 Chronographs
These vintage Swiss-made chronographs from a storied American brand combine great looks and quality mechanics at an affordable price.2013 marked the 50th anniversary of the Heuer Carrera, an iconic racing chronograph from a classic Swiss brand. Although the Carrera's looks have never really gone out of style, anniversary celebrations throughout the year have rekindled collectors' interest in early versions of the watch, and record prices are being paid for the best examples. While it might be hard for the average collector to justify spending a month's salary or more on an original Heuer Carrera, the interesting details of the watch industry in the late 60s and early 70s make it possible for collectors on almost any budget to afford a Heuer-made chronographwith another brand's name on it. Today, we'll look at a pair of such watches from American watch company Hamilton.HistoryIn 1966, Hamilton Watch Company of Lancaster, PA purchased the Swiss watch company Buren. For the next three
Alpina Introduces the Alpiner 4 Flyback Chronograph
Last week, Alpina looked to turn a few heads and break some technological ground at Baselworld with their interesting C even exciting C new release, the new Alpiner 4 Flyback Chronograph. The new chrono features Alpina's brand new in-house flyback chronograph movement. Dubbed the Calibre AL-760, it's a new take on the classic column wheel chronograph mechanism. The column wheel is there, controlling the start-stop-reset functions. But instead of actual discrete columns, the wheel has a single central star shaped column. The star's recesses interact with the control lever the same way columns would in a conventional column wheel design. The result is a butter-smooth actuating mechanism for start-stop and start-stop-start-stop (and on and on, if the operator wishes to do so) functionality. The flyback function operates conventionally, with the push piece at 4 o'clock. Actuate this pusher with the chronograph running and you instantaneously restart the chrono timing from zero. All this functi
Omega Mesh For My 2254
Just ordered Omega mesh for my 2254 from ofrei. I really dislike all the other Omega bracelets except for the mesh. Mesh is the most comfortable bracelet i have ever worn.I found that Omega bracelets are not very secure. In fact my first SMP the clasp would open up on its own with little pressure forced applied when bending my wrist. Another thing is that original Omega bracelets are a bit too heavy for me and make watch feel uncomfortable and unbalanced on my wrist. I really can't believe Omega did not put any sort of safety latch on the clasps of their diver watches. To me this seems like a no-brainier feature for all diver watches.
