Dominique Loiseau Dead: Master Watchmaker Leaves Strong Legacy
Sad news today as Swiss/French watchmaker Mr. Dominique Loiseau has passed away, Gregory Pons at Business Montres reports. He was just 64 years old. Still relatively unknown to many people, Loiseau was one of the venerable geniuses of modern watchmaking, able not only to restore incredible and complex works from the past, but invent the word's most complicated watches of today.I first encountered Dominique a couple of years ago at Baselworld upon the announcement of his new eponymous brand "Loiseau." His debut watch was the 1f4 that we offered a hands-on look here. The plan was to produce just two a year, and the 1f4 was to be the most complicated watch in the world. The double-sided uber-watch was a mere taste of the man's accomplishments. More recently, it was announced that he signed on with Girard-Perregaux for a series of unspecified projects related to the introduction of new mechanical watch technologies (and of course products). I knew there was trouble though when Girard-Perre
Buying an AP in Tokyo?
Hey all. Newly joined member as I have been stuck looking for information. I'm vacationing in Tokyo (I'm from Toronto) for a few days, and I've been looking around for new or gently used preown APs. I have to say, Tokyo is pretty amazing in terms of selection!I was just inside the AP boutique shop in Ginza, and was quoted 2400000 yen for the ROC SS. They have them in black, white, or blue dial!As a reference, used goes for 2000000 yen here. I find it interesting from the sales rep that there's no room for negotiation, as another AP AD (best watches in Shinjuku) was ready to negotiate. I was hoping members on this board can assist me with the pricing in Europe, US and Canada with the 2016 price for this? I tried searching and couldn't find the info. Or another option is to go with DavidSW, but am I losing anything from not buying from an AD?Thank you!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Strap for Calatrava 5127R
Hello,Which strap does new 5127R comes with? Is it shiny black? Also, when buying a BNIB 5127R, what comes with it?I am planning on purchasing it.My final question is, that if buying out of state, do I still have to pay my local tax for it? I am buying in Florida but live in Pennsylvania. Do I have to declare the watch and pay Pennsylvania tax for it? My AD in Florida informed me about that and asking me to sign the paper work that I am aware of this. Is this what you guys do?Thanks for your feedback!
Which dome crystal model?
Currently looking to sell my 164 and get a dome crystal style. What options do you recommend? Recently fell in love of domed crystals after seeing my friend's 233. Can't really afford the 233 now though....The 422 is great but I am not sure about a 47. What else is there? (No radiomirs).
How different is the DJ SS Blue dial vs the Sky-D SS Blue Dial in real?
Can anyone comment, on how different are the blue dials that are available on the SS version of DJ and Sky-D? If someone has seen both the watches in person? Looking at the pictures on the Rolex's website, there seems to be a slight difference. The blue dial of Sky-D has a bit of shimmer. But they don't mention if there is any difference. In person they might be more similar than when looking at the pictures online!?I was lucky to get an SS Sky-D with black dial. However, haven't tried any Rolex with blue dial yet. So wanted to get opinions. Maybe get a DJ in future with blue dial.
