Concord C1 QuantumGravity Movement (And Whatever Upcoming Watch) Annoys Me
My problems with Concord all started with the "revitalization" of the brand a few years ago when the Concord C1 watch line was released. I wrote this article discussing how (and why) I didn't care for the design of the C1. The brand keeps coming out with new watches all based on the C1, some more hideous that others. Then came out the vertically aligned tourbillon watch, and most recently, the tourbillon version of the Concord C1 will be supplemented with this new movement, the C1 QuantumGravity - and I am thoroughly annoyed by it.It is funny, because other watches and watch companies do a lot of the same things that Concord is doing, but the marketing and attitude at Concord irks me the most. Namely, it is over-hyping and creating confusion around the new products that they release. Nothing about Concord's new watches impresses me. There is really nothing to impress anyone. They want you to think they have created the next great watch, but they haven't. They have just done the same th
Introducing: The Gr?nefeld 1941 Remontoire, Inspired By A Church Clock In The Gr?nefeld Family's Care For Two Generations
The Grönefeld Brothers hail from the town of Oldenzaal, in the Netherlands, close to the border with Germany; they're third-generation watchmakers who, after training and considerable professional experience in Switzerland, began making their own watches, under their own name, in 2008. Their first watch was a complicated minute repeater with tourbillon, but they're probably best known for their One Hertz wristwatch with deadbeat seconds, which was a big hit for the brothers in 2011. (HODINKEE covered the One Hertz when it was announced at Baselworld.) As alumni of Audemars Piguet Renaud et Papi, Tim and Bart have had exposure to some of the most complicated watches, and technically demanding projects, in modern horology, and their newest watch incorporates a pretty rarefied complication: the remontoire d'egalité. 1 OF 9 The remontoire d'egalité is, as you may have read in some of our previous coverage of the complication, one of h

Triplock water resistance question.....
Hello everyone here at TRF! I had a Rolex water resistance question I wanted to get your thoughts on.I have always been believed that models with the Triplock crown system were water resistant to a minimum of 300m (i.e. submariner, SeaDweller, etc). Conversely, those with a Twinlock come with 100m water resistance (DateJust, Oyster, Milgauss, etc)Assuming that is true (and that may be an erroneous assumption on my part), why does the Yacht-Master....which has a TripLock crown come with only 100m of water resistance?Anyway, just curious. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
A Year On The Wrist
Since I got my watch just about a year ago, I thought I'd do a longish writeup of my experience. Some of my comments will pertain to all Rolexes and not just my platinum Daytona.A quick summary: I got a two-tone Datejust in 1985, wore it daily until last year and always thought it was one of the great purchases of my life. But in the summer of 2016, I started to ponder the idea of getting a second watch. I got intrigued with the new SS Daytonas, fell in love, and put down a deposit on one. I then discovered TRF, lost my patience, and splurged on a platinum version that was about a year old. I know that isn't a choice everyone can make, and I also know I seldom desire really extravagant things, so this wasn't just a splurge of the month for me.The watch has been fantastic! I admit I don't usually second guess my very, very occasional major purchases (thankfully) and this has been no exception. I love the weight of the watch, the look of the dial and bezel, and everything about it
