MKII Nassau Review
MKII is a bit of an anomaly in the watch world. Their watches are immediate cult favorites, they base their designs largely if not entirely on classic designs from military and tool watches from the 50's, 60's and 70's and they are basically a company of one. MKII is the project of Bill Yao, a perfectionist with an eye for the details and obsessive dedication to quality and execution. In hand, a MKII has the feel of a watch worth much more. These are not just dials and movements and cases put together and sold, each piece is carefully designed, assembled, examined and tested. They are all built with top quality components, and though their prices reflect this all, they are not outrageously priced.Case: 316L SteelMovement: ETA 2836-2Dial: BlackLume: YesLens: SapphireStrap: BraceletWater Res.: 200mDimensions: 39.2 x 47.95mmThickness: 14.5 mmLug Width: 20 mmCrown: 7 x 4 mm screw downWeight: 144g on bracelet (our measure)Warranty: yesPrice: $895.00MKII's most recent release, the Nassau, is
The Value Proposition: The Stowa Partitio Black Automatic, A 37 mm Vintage-Inspired Watch Under $1,0
Based on a simple 1930s model from the Stowa archives, the Partitio Black Automatic retains much of the understated functional design that began to gain popularity at that time. Moreover, the slim proportions – 37 mm in diameter and about 11 mm in thickness – are a breath of fresh air for those who prefer more discreet and wearable watches. At just under $725, the three-hand watch with black dial and an unfussy case design presents good value relative to other vintage-inspired models with ebauche movements on the market today. 2 OF 8 The 37 mm stainless steel case features linear lugs. The Partitio Black Automatic follows the same Bauhaus design ethos as another watch we reviewed in the last column, The Nomos Tangente. The hallmarks of Bauhaus design (and good design in general), most notably a symbiosis between form and function, are on full display with this model.Additionally, a great attention to detail has been paid to the typesetting and typefaces u
10:10
What are you WIS doing with your AP at 10:10?I was with my daughter in the ICU 2 days ago when she was treated for her first attack of breathlessness. It was such a nerve-wrecking experience when your loved one was suffering from such emergency. When she was on her first nebulizer, I decided to record the moment and that was when I noticed my AP-clad arm was holding her for support & encouragement. It was nearing 10:10am...10:10 resembles a V sign which signifies victory! And million thanks to the team of doctors and nurses, my girl was recovering very well and was discharged from hospital yesterday. Just a day before the incident, I was meeting Ben (aka benlee) for lunch and we talked about how short and fragile life is. Hence when all necessities in life like housing, insurance, sustainable investment, etc have been catered for, it is always a good idea to splurge on hobbies, travelling, etc, during our prime years when we have the means and stamina to enjoy the best part of our
Advice for AP AD in CT
I see in AP's web site there are 2 AP ADs in CT (MANFREDI JEWELS in Greenwich, and ARMSTRONG & ROCKWELL in Hartford,. I am in RI and want to check out some APs in person. Hartford is about an hr and a half, and Greenwich is 2hrs away. Witch dealer has the best stock of different models? If I'm taking a drive, I don't want to go to an AD that has a small selection. Or would I be better off dealing with the hassle and going in to NYC and go to the AP boutique?
Just a fun watch!
I know that it's not a Rolex but I am sure that many of you will appreciate this vintage omega i picked up yesterday. Let me know what you think. Cheers!
