Inside The Manufacture: The Making Of F.P.Journe's Most Complicated Watch
Before we get started, we need to talk about just what a grande sonnerie is, and what it's not. A grande sonnerie is not a cartoonish complication. A grand sonnerie hasn't been taken from the highest echelons of true artisanal watchmaking to become a status symbol for anyone who can string together a few bucks. There are no movement shops selling off-the-shelf grande sonneries to fashion brands. There is no such thing as a grande sonnerie module from Dubois Depraz, and we've yet to see a Chinese grande sonnerie. You see, in the world of high complications, the grande and petite sonnerie holds a very special place, well above even split-seconds chronographs, perpetual calendars, and certainly above the once-holy tourbillon. Consider the fact that the very first grande and petite sonnerie wristwatch was produced not in the 1940s like so many complications, but in 1992, and it took the skills of no one short of Philippe Dufour to accomplish this. Radiomir at its purest?
Guys,I'm a minimalist, and a big fan of simplicity and functionality.Although Rolex are highly utilitarian tool watches, I still find that buying a Radiomir was a huge step towards a simpler more pure look... and more so because the Radiomir has changed a lot less than Rolex watches have, since the original design. With that said, I'm aware that the PAM183 — and in particular the Black Seal phrase —?isn't the most original thing about a Radiomir. I also know that a 12-3-6-9 dial without small seconds (correct me if I'm wrong) is more desirable when looking for a true original. On a quest for the purest, most original, most utilitarian Radiomir... I ask you to pick one:1. 12-3-6-9 dial with small seconds.2. 12-3-6-9 dial without small seconds.3. SLC dial.4. California dial.5. Other (comment)
Watches on sale as bnib but way less than msrp
One question been puzzling me. I see lots of bnib watches for sale at way less than mrsp eg 116619lb PM Smurf on sale for $26k a few weeks old when the msrp is over $36k. Plus lots of others that are less than cost. Who is taking the hit on these if they are sold at cost - and if not how can the trusted sellers make cash on them ??
