Need Seamaster Info
I recently discovered the Rolex forum and the members in the Vintage section gave some good info on my Explorer II which is now being serviced. What brings me to the Omega section is that I needed to have a watch to wear while the Rolex is being worked on. I looked in my bureau drawer and discovered my late father-in-law's old Seamaster which had sat there for over 40 years. I wound it and it ran for 4 days when it stopped and refused to run again. My questions are: is the watch worth being repaired, and does it have any collector value? It certainly has sentimental value to me as he was a really nice guy. As you can see from the attached photos the watch has had some use. The crystal and the case both have scratches. The band is a Speidel (are they still in business?). Any information that you can give me would be appreciated. After digging through that drawer again I came up with a Waltham self-winder which I'm sure is older than the Seamaster. I heard a story.
I was told, from a very liable source, that Patek once released 10 or less 5711's with a camouflage green dial, much like the one on the Aquanaut that made it's way to the Sothebys auction in Geneva this summer. Apparently these green dial 5711's were only given to selected clients named directly by Mr. Philippe Stern. I wonder if anyone has seen it or heard a similar story ?
Incoming White Sky-Dweller
After waiting for three months with 50% down on an AD list, I gave up and pulled the trigger on a BNIB model listed on the classified section here. Very pleased I did. White was my first choice, then while waiting I started looking more closely at the blue one. Glad I stuck to my original choice. Definitely the right one for me! Love the clean, elegant look. This watch SINGS to me. Really enjoy how it changes color, depending on how the light hits it. At times it looks white, silver, and grey. I tried to illustrate this below.
explorer ii 16570 white dial
hi all, picked up this baby today. It is a U serial number tritium dial, although the lume did not develop any patina yet, although the dots and arrows have a slight contrast to the dial. there is still a faint glow on the dots and arrows but does not last long.Well, looking fwd to it developing the patina, but if not, it is still a gorgeous watch. I include the customary pics - sorry for the lousy shots; am not very good at it.Rafteur
