Timing MotoGP with Tissot
Brands sponsoring events, athletes and celebrities is nothing new in the world of watches. It's a way for a brand to associate themselves with things/people of greatness and, frankly, market their goods. There are different ways brands go about this, sometimes plastering a celeb with their logos, sometimes putting their watches in extreme circumstances and other times more subtly. It's this last approach that I got to recently witness while attending MotoGP in Indianapolis with Tissot, who are the Official Time Keeper of the event. Yes, their name is on the track, though modestly compared to other sponsors, and yes they do sponsor racers, such as the US' Nicky Hayden, though you won’t see them wrapped in logos either And no it doesn't mean that the wall clock is simply a Tissot. Rather, in a quiet booth, behind closed doors, is a team of technicians who closely monitor and time to within hundreds of a second the races and racers. Before getting into that, it's worth taking a look
Incoming! My first PAM!
I have a few Rolexes (many bought here on TRF). My local jewelry store had a PAM00112 they took in on trade. The deal was too good to pass up. So far, I'm loving it. Might be a bit on the large side. Hate Panerai !!!!
I will get right to the point here. I am a large collector and I have always disliked-hated Panerai watches. I have everything besides Panerai. They always seemed overpriced and plain. What changed? Why do I want it so bad?I think after having all the others my addiction is in full force. There is something about the brown strap and the tobacco dial that screams to me and forces me to withdraw money from my account. I have news for you folks I bought one and the postman is going to be here by 3pm! I am fired up to get this piece!!! This morning my wife said to me Why do you have that stupid grin on your face? What did you buy now? I've never seen that grin-smirk that big before She's about to find out what that smirk is all about in just a few hours here!!
New watch - Rolex DSSD!
Just came in this morning! I've always wanted to try one of these but I've been nervous about the size. I started looking into these more closely lately as I've wanted a bigger watch. I'm 6'4 and about 265lbs so I figured I could pull it off. My buddy had one for sale and I couldn't be more pleased with it. G serial from 2012 with a full set; everything including the original sales receipt. The original owner put it on a rubber B from the dealer (seriously, he specified it on the receipt), so the bracelet is mint. There's still stickers on the clasp. Here's some quick pics with my 1986 (birth year) 16660. Initial thoughts - way more comfortable than I thought it would be and I don't mind the chapter ring text like I thought I would. I think this will be a nice change of pace from the other 40mm Rolex watches in my collection. All in all, I'm extremely happy with this purchase.
