Watches NEWS
i'm thinking of refinishing my wakmann
hi there! long time lurker, first time poster, so i hope i'm posting this in the right area. so a couple of years ago my father handed down to me his 1960's wakmann in 18kt case with gold bar markers and hands that was in terrible shape. i took it to my old watch repair man in eureka,ca (before he broke his elbow and had to retire) and he fixed the movement and got it running again and he got the chronometer working also, so now it's a beautifully running watch. unfortunately it had a cracked crystal for years sitting in my fathers dresser drawer with water damage on the dial (as shown in the pictures), so part of the tachymeter has washed away, getting to the point of my post. i'm looking to get the dial refinished and relumed, along with reluming the hands. so i'm hoping the gentlemen and scholars on here could recommend some quality refinishers. i don't ever plan on selling the watch, so i'm not concerned about losing resale value.but i also don't want a hack job done on my vintage
Great WHite
I was bored and decided to pop the mesh on. What do you think?
Looking for thoughts on this payment schedule
So I have money saved up for either a GMT II 2 tone or DSSD...just have to pick which one. But before the price increase I started looking at a 2nd watch. My Panerai AD told me something interesting. If I purchase a Panerai (looking at the 514) at full retail, they can finance interest free for 20 months. Or....they can provide 10% off with interest free financing for 10 months. Looking at the forums, a used 514 typically comes in around $6k USD. I don't know how long it will take our dollar to rebound. Right now, to buy a $6k watch in the US would cost around $7.4 CDN...ouch. Might as well buy new. Any thoughts?
Hulk and Daydate 40 or DJ 41 and PM Sub?
What are your thoughts - which 2-piece combo would you rather have?
GMT-Master II glare: 116710LN vs 16710
I'm curious if any owners of both can comment on the older watch vs the newer one. After wearing a blue dial DJ for many years, I added a 116710LN. It seems to me to be plagued by glare much more than my old watch. I know the crystal/AR topic has been discussed a lot, and that's certainly part of it. It also seems like reflection off the perimeter of the indices contributes.Has anyone else experienced this? And are the 5-digit watches, better, worse, or the same on this front? Thanks.
