Reflecting On The Jaeger - LeCoultre Calibre 101 Movement - World's Smallest
Please enjoy the original article below by established watch writer Meehna Goldsmith. From magazines, to the freer writing form of the web, she is a knowledgeable watch junkie who knows high-end pieces. She contributes to publications such as Robb Report, International Watch, Watch Journal, among others, as well as aBlogtoReadwatches-dealer. You can visit her on her website meehnagoldsmithwatches-dealer.For those stateside, the year 1929 holds dark memories of the disastrous plunge of the U.S. stock market. However, across the world in the Swiss workshops of Jaeger LeCoultre, the year 1929 is a cause for celebration: it marks the birthday of the iconic Calibre 101.At its debut, the Calibre 101 set the record for the world's smallest movement and 81 years later in 2010, it still holds this honor [Ed. Note: check out another article here discussing the life of the Calibre 101 movement]. When you think about all the patents and record-breaking feats announced every year in the world of ho
One Year Of Watch Blogging: The First Anniversary Of aBlogtoRead.com
I'm not going to get all mushy or dramatic. It has been a year since I started aBlogtoReadwatches-dealer and it has really come a long way. When the site began, I had little idea that it would be solely a blog about watches. Could I really handle writing about watches all the time? Well the answer to that question is pretty self evident. At first, I really thought that watches would merely be a regular, albeit shared category, along with other things that I know about. While I do occasionally remark on legal or business items, and Internet marketing, my passion has obviously laid with those little time telling machines that I wish were more ubiquitous.Over the past year the look of the blog has developed, and so have my contacts in, and knowledge about the watch world. I have a lot of plans in the works to further improve the site, and your ideas are more than welcome. Among those things that I have learned, not all are pleasant. Getting to know the watch industry and online watch reta

Considering First PP: 5119r vs 5726 strap
Went to the AD last week and finally got to try on some PP's for the first time in my life!! The 5119r and the 5726 strap are standing out among the relatively few pieces that are within my humble budget.I currently have the AP diver (weekend) and a Rolex sea-dweller (daily) and what I am looking for in the next one is a watch that I can dress up with for events (cocktail parties, weddings, etc).I really love the 5119r's classic look yet the size of the watch is slightly small and I am just scared that I could only wear it in the most formal occasions. The 5726 has a beautiful dial, the complication and is a lot more versatile yet I find it hard to part with so much money for a steel watch!Besides a comparison of both watches, I am also very interested to hear your opinions on expensive steel watches.
Double Incoming And A Bit Different!
I've wanted a different Rolex for some time now, call me quirky (which is probably the nicest thing I'll be called here for my choices). As I decided on this different watch, though, I could not help but lambaste myself for not buying a proper tool watch. I'm apparently a tool watch addict. The closer that I got to pulling my cash out at my AD for the more unconventional Rolex, the more I thought that I was a fool for sacrificing the type of functionality that would allow me to, say, leave my watch on the bathroom counter while I shower (not in Florida of course) or send it to the darkest recesses of my safe for up to a week at a time...I needed toughness and versatility obviously, and I could not buy something less standard without counterbalancing it with this elusive (and strictly conceptual) functionality. I told my AD that I needed a few moments to go and decide.Knowing that buying something different while thinking of something else would make me end up buying the something else e
