HYT H2 Hydromechanical Watch Unveiled
The Hydromechanical Horologists, aka HYT, have finally released their second watch model after the explosively popular H1 from last year. The new watch is the H2, and breaks new ground in terms of mechanical and visual interest versus merely adding a new complication. Our friends at HYT's media partner Watchonsita offered the full details here for HYT. Before getting all excited about the H2, let's recall what the H1 was about by visiting our hands-on look at the H1 watch here.Earlier this month HYT shared with us a picture of the rear of the HYT H2's movement here. Looking like a robot face, the image was a prelude of a technically marvelous watch to come that was as much about design and style as it was about horology. HYT worked with APRP's Giulio Papi to help design and produce the H2's movement. In short, the movement actually has less complications than the first (with the removal of the subsidiary seconds dial). However, with an increased power reserve and more complex architect
Would you put your AP on a watchwinder?
Hi,I know there are many watchwinder posts in the main TRF forum, but interested to see what others do with their APs. I know that our wrists are the best watchwinders, but we only have 2 wrists, wear only 1 watch at a time, and a lot of us have more than 1 watch.I don't rotate my watches everyday, more so every 3-4 days or every week or so, and with the AP's power reserve ranging from 40-60 hours (with my ROC being 40 hours), it wouldn't allow me to leave it unworn over a weekend for example (if I take it off Friday night it'll be stopped by Monday morning).I used to have a Big Pilot so with a 7 day reserve I could rotate it without a watchwinder. However, now with a Sub and AP, wanted to see how others manage to rotate your watches. Both Sub and AP have screw-down crowns and date function, and I don't want to wear out the threads by unscrewing them every day to manually wind them to keep them running. So do you:a) use a watchwinder with your AP (or other watches with a screw-down c
Mixed Candy From AP!!
Got to see some really fantastic creation from AP this week
Seamaster 300MC Titanium
Have had this one for a couple of weeks and haven't had a chance to take pics. What can I say...I'm in love. The blue dial is different than the typical black dial diver and the titanium case disappears on the wrist. If you haven't tried this on, do so. It is a classic beauty. No complications to muddy up the dial and an adjustable clasp for all-weather conditions.
The Crown
I was asked (and got a couple PMs on the operation of the Ploprof crown so I thought I'd try a few pics on it's operation. The Ploprof crown has got to be one of the most protective crown devices I've seen on a wristwatch. Everything about the ploprof screams overengineered and crown is no exception. Fully inclosing the winding crown, the only thing I have that compares is Panerai with it's device for protecting the crown, but the ploprof design has got be a bit more so as it raises and lowers as the crown is unscrewed.Seen here it's fully closed position, the crown is protected all around including the top.The Ploprof imploys a three position crown. Unscrewing the crown allows the watch to be wound in the normal way. (Omega states a 60 hour PR fully wound). Note how the top of the crown rises.Position 2 allows one to jump the hour hand in one hour increments forward or backwards without affecting the running of the seconds or minute hand. A nice feature if moving from one timezone to a
