Hands-On: The Peter Speake-Marin Bi-Tourbillon
Peter Speake-Marin is introducing a new member of the J Class collection this year and it’s called the Bi-Tourbillon. The watch is a technical tour de force, featuring a pair of vertically aligned tourbillons linked by a spring clutch system. The Bi-Tourbillon is a nod to the rich history that ties Peter Speake-Marin to the tourbillon, a complication that accompanied the first timepiece to bear his name (a pocket watch in 2000). We got our hands on the watch in Basel last month, and there’s a healthy amount of recognizable Speake-Marin style in the new watch, as well. 1 OF 2 The Bi-Tourbillon is reminiscent of the Vintage Tourbillon we saw from from Speake-Marin back in 2005. The two watches share similarly styled bridges made of German silver, and a baseplate with perlage and ruthenium plating serving as a backdrop on the dial side. 2500 or 8500 ?
Paid a visit to one of my local A.D yesterday with the hope of looking for a Planet Ocean Liquid Metal L.E. As you guessed, they didn't have one. On display in front of me was the 45.5mm new Planet Ocean ceramic with orange 6-9-12. I tried this on and was impressed with the quality and weight of the watch and also how the 6-9-12 reflected the light, quite superb! We talked watches for about 20 minutes and I left with the salesman's card and that he would phone Omega UK about the availability of the LM LE and phone me when he has some more info. He phoned today when he said he would with the news that Omega UK have back orders for 77 of the LM LE and couldn't promise that all will be fulfilled. He also mentioned that the 42mm version of the new PO 8500 with the orange 6-9-12 is also on back order with a total of 74 people waiting. Now comes the dilema, do I buy the 45.5mm 8500 PO which is in stock or wait and see if a PO LM LE comes up?The LM LE is priced at ?3700 with no discount due
Impact of replacement cases on valuation
Hi all,Just wanted to get an expert's opinion on this as I can't seem to find a clear quantitative answer online (other than all-original, triple-signed watches being generally more valuable). If I were to buy a Patek with an original movement and dial, but a replaced case, by how much should I haircut the original value, and how much would that impact its potential resale value? The new case is in 18-kt gold, also Swiss-made, if that matters. The condition is great otherwise. Thanks all! Cathy
