Affordable Vintage: 1970 Grand Seiko 61GS 6145-8000
While Seiko is probably best known for their dive watches, they are also masters of creating hi-end dress watches. Their Grand Seiko (GS) line made its debut in 1960, and continued until the 1970’s. The mechanical Grand Seiko was revived in 1998 and continues production to this day. The most iconic of all the Grand Seiko case designs began as the 44GS in 1966 (manual wind), and culminated in the 61GS in 1968 (automatic). The 61GS line was the result of refinements over the years including technology from the Astronomical Observatory Concours of the late 1960’s.Reviewed here today is a 1970 Grand Seiko 6145-8000. The watch was designed by Taro Tanaka, the first graduate of a college design program hired by Seiko. Fake or real ?
I own a Seamaster Professional Chronograph and in a moment of spare time had a look on ebay to see how much they were going for.I'm seeing 2 types of dial : my seamaster which doesn't have a double dash at the top of it (image 1) and others which do (image 2).The image on the omega website doesn't have the double dash : .omegawatches/collecti...-5-mm/22258000I googled around for pictures and have noticed there seems to be a somewhat even split between those which do have a double-dash at the top and those which don't.I even found some dealers online which are selling watches with the double dash e.g..watchgallery.au/Watch...h-Titaniu.aspxJust for interest : are the ones with the double dashes fake ? Or is there an alternative dial style to the UK where I live ?
I damaged my 145022 within hours of purchase..
Caught the speedy bug and decided to have one. Lucky enough to find 1 in our local watch forum, but my silly carelessness ruined the watch. Water vapour starts forming within minutes of washing the bracelet. To remedy, i used a hair dryer from a distance and what happened next, the plexi glass fell off.How silly am i?And out of the sudden, the second hand started to fly, it moves so fast, faster then Carl running 100m. OMG
