Roger Smith Watches
At the end of July, I had the special pleasure of spending a couple hours with Roger Smith as he swooped into Los Angeles to deliver the commissioned and bespoke Big Date Tourbillon that had been four years in the making.I have a special interest in independent watchmakers and Roger Smith, who hails from England and still lives thereCthe Isle of Man, to be specificChappens to be one of whom I'm particularly fond. Most watchmakers do their schooling and then go to work for the brands to cut their teeth. Smith has never worked for a brand. He had a very personal watch education from the master of independent watchmaking, George Daniels. If you're not familiar with Dr. George Daniels, he practically gave birth to the independent watchmaking movement. He's known for his exquisite one-off pocket watches as well as his invention of the co-axial escapement. Yes, the one used by Omega. When Smith was in watchmaking school, Daniels came to the classroom and showed his Space Traveler watch to the
Breitling Transocean 38
Looking to buy one for my wife and seeing two models being sold that look the same but there is a 2000 difference. Breitling website has A4131012/BC06/171A listed and I also see it on the web and ebay listed for 8000 MSRP and selling price about 6000. But, I also see another model A4131012/BC06SS that is not listed on Breitling site but is selling MSRP for about 6000 and selling at about 4500.Any ideas on the difference or the reason for the difference in pricing? They seem to be exact based on description and pictures.
Railmaster vs. FOIS
Between these two models, which one much better on your own opinion? Need your vote, thanks!1.) Railmaster: dia. 40mm, Auto & co-axial calibre, chronometer.2.) FOIS: dia. 39.7mm, Hand-wound & non chronometer. Both the prices are almost same.
Graduation watch
My dad has asked me what watch I would like for my graduation present this year, I figured the best people to ask would be those who know a lot about watches.Originally I was dead torn between a Submariner and a Breitling Emergency Mission, already had the conversation about the radio and 'improper use' with him and a jeweller. But because of the recession, my dad being pretty hard hit as he is self employed, I think I may ask for something a little less expensive and the obvious answer to me is an Omega..omegawatches/gents/se...hrono/22105200.omegawatches/gents/se...23230465101002Both have their merits. The orange is slightly different plus I could buy the orange rubber strap to wear when on holiday or out on the boat. Though I could see other people finding it to be a little offensive and gaudy, maybe. The black is very conservative and the mesh strap is also a little different but looks very classic.Or is there anything else I am missing. All feedback welcome, a lot of you guys have
Which rolex model will likely be the next one to surge in price?
I am new to the rolex forums but have been an avid rolex and tudor watch collector/enthusiast. A few years back, I purchased a white rolex daytona 116520 knowing its price would only continue to increase. Also, I own a black tudor snowflake submariner 94110 (which I purchased from Antione De Macedo in Paris) whose price has surged with the fairly recent introduction of tudor watches in the United States. Outside of the daytonas and submariners of the world, which rolex model is bound to have the next big price surge? I can't think of any model in particular at the moment. Any and all comments or suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks!
