HourTime Show Watch Podcast Episode 159: After Vegas
With John having just left us for Iceland, David and Ariel discuss being in Las Vegas for the 2014 Couture Watch and Jewelry Show and JCK, as well as the other brands we saw in town. There was a lot to laugh about, including humorous haute horology defects and marketing debacles. In the HourTime Show Watch Podcast Episode 159, we discuss brands we visited and watches we saw at the shows, including a lot of TAG Heuer, specifically the Carrera CH 80 (hands-on here), Ulysse Nardin and their Stranger Music Box Watch, among others, and Bulova pieces, including their Accutron II watch (hands-on)...Las Vegas has apparently had the effect of making both David and Ariel want to bling themselves out with diamond-covered watches. From there, conversation turns to reviewing watch prototypes and a malfunctioning hour striker watch we dubbed the "perpetual striker," with Ariel helping us through David's lapses into technical geekisms. Piaget Creates Rare Beautiful Skeletonized Thin Mechanical Watch In The Altiplano Squelette
Skeletonized watches are popular right now, and named for the view (complete or partial) of the watch movement in the dial. Some skeletonized watches provide glimpses all the way through the watch, while others provide mere hints of the gears and mechanism which together power the watch. The reason skeletonized watches are popular is because they offer mechanical credibility. No one needs a mechanical watch, but its nice to know that your timepiece is a sophisticated piece of machinery, and there is no better way to show that than by actually showing you such machinery. The problem with many skeletonized watches is that they are limited by the actual mechanics of the watch. Meaning that gears, springs, and bridges must often be located in specific places to work. You cannot simply arrange them in an aesthetic manner all the time. Designers would love to arrange things with a sense of symmetry and style, but that requires significant complexity starting with the design of the movement. O

DSOTM For Sweaty People?
Hey Omega Crew,I have loved the DSOTM ever since it was introduced a few years ago, and only grew to love it even more every time I've tried it on. I really want to add it to my collection, but I have one misgiving - the strap.I love the cordura strap, but I typically only wear steel bracelets because I tend to get sweaty in the summer time and I don't want to ruin leather straps. My question is this: I know the cordura strap is lined with a thin layer of leather. Does it hold up after a couple years of wearing it during hot summers? Thanks for your input!
omega vs. rolex?
I was speaking to an AD the other day in Boston and we talked about the match-up including issues of price increases on omega to match rolex and the trend of going to omega watch boutiques. but here is my question: why does omega (swatch) allow the omega brand to be retailed on Amazon???
