A Week On The Wrist: The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph. This is a watch that is so known to many of you, it may not need much of an analysis – but this is HODINKEE and you can believe you're gonna get one. The Royal Oak Chronograph is a watch that has thousands of lovers the world over, and a few detractors, too. The ROC, as I'll call it henceforth, is something of a middle ground between two completely distinct Audemars Piguet buyers – the collectors, and, well, everyone else. The Royal Oak and Royal Oak Offshore families often appeal to very different people, but I'll get to that shortly. In this review, I tackle a mainstay in the AP lineup, and an interesting piece of haute horology, though one without its own in-house movement. I will look at how this 41mm column-wheel, vertical clutch chronograph wears, and if the matter of where the movement came from is even something worth noting at all. Introducing: The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Tourbillon Extra-Thin Openworked, Now In Yellow Gold
Back at SIHH 2012, Audemars Piguet released the Royal Oak Tourbillon Extra-Thin Openworked in platinum. This watch was an instant high-end hit and people (especially people here at HODINKEE) loved it. So you can imagine our excitement to see that AP has re-released the Royal Oak Tourbillon Extra-Thin, now in yellow gold. 1 OF 2 As you may know, Audemars Piguet is known for their openworked watches and the great amount of craftsmanship that goes into each piece is incredible. The first skeletonized AP was created around 1921 (a pocket watch with skeletonized dial) and the first skeletonized Royal Oak was made in 1986 (1993 for the first skeletonized women’s Royal Oak), so they have had plenty of time to perfect the technique. ADVERTISEMENT Just like the original Extra-Thin Tourbillon Openworked, the caliber 2924 movement (which was brand new back in 2012, celebrating 40 years of Royal Oak) is used in the new yellow-gold piece. Honest opinion about 114060 AND 116710LN together
Hi guys, still playing with the idea of what to buy next.... I have a couple of options however also some ''struggles'' to go with one or each other. Some models i just simply don't like, a Explorer would be another great option but i have to go with the 40mm and i just don't like ''older'' watches, cause i buy them for myself only, and i don't like another his history on my wrist. If you could only own 2 rolexes, would a GMT master 2 with the black bezel and a 114060 no date make a good combo ? I know it is a bit boring perhaps, but the green hands, the date window the bezel and center links + green letters on dial and different functions makes it quite a different watch to me... and a plus point is that my girlfriend can wear one of them while we are out and makes a nice ''couple'' watch in 1.... Well at least, that is what i think... But i guess i would get negative comments of you guys as i guess you will find it to boring for just a 2 piece collection?Any pro's?Any con's?Would i be
