Rolex Daytona Watches For 2011
In addition to the new Rolex Explorer 2 watch model for 2011, Rolex offers a new range of Daytona watches for men this year at the Baselworld show. 2011 is apparently the 50th anniversary of the Daytona, so we get two types of new models. Rolex is further rumored to released an overhauled Daytona for 2012. Until then we have the more standard looking model that now comes with Rolex's very nice ceramic bezel that they call their "Cerachrom" bezel. The black bezel is a retro-nod to some older Daytona models and is in black ceramic with pink gold numerals applied with an amusing technique call "magnetron cathode sputtering." Yes, more of that please. The case is 40mm wide and in 18k Rolex Everose pink gold (that is said not to fade). This reference 116515LN will come on a black alligator strap for now. As is Rolex's custom, I anticipate more models of this style coming out in the next few years, including models with a bracelet, Rolesor (two tone), and steel models. As you can see, the wat
Traveling with ROC - bracelet woes
I'm wrapping up an awesome spring break in Arizona and for the first time traveling took my ROC on its bracelet. At home, I've found it great for everyday wear but during my travels, I have run into wrist swelling problems. And of course with no micro-adjusting clasp, there were times I just couldn't wear it. I don't know all of the physiology, but am guessing the frequent changes in altitude and hydration make your wrist change in size frequently.I don't really want to bring a watch kit (screwdrivers, extra links, etc) when I travel. So in the future, I'm wondering if this is a time to put it on a strap or go with another watch altogether. The low WR rating is also a reason it may not be an ideal single travel watch. I love my ROC, but it doesn't do me any good in its travel box. I know there are a lot of frequent travelers on TRF so was wondering what others do in this situation. New Look For PO
Hi guys Got myself a new strap for my 42mm PO.I know how you all like pictures so I thought I'd share...Ordered this direct from Austria...IMG_1559.JPGHirsh Jumper Black Croc with orange stitch. Came with a tool & new spring bars.IMG_1560.JPGI fancied a new look without spending a small fortune. I sent the PO for a service and it came back all lovely & polished but after a couple of months the clasp's starting to show signs of wear, IMG_1562.JPGThis is my first attempt to change straps. The tool was the wrong size but I managed to get the bracelet off with a bit of fiddling.IMG_1563.JPGGetting the new strap on was pretty easy, although I did put it on the wrong way round at first & had to swap it back round again!!IMG_1564.JPGWorn it for the rest of the day and could hardly take my eyes off it, Almost like having a whole new watch..I love the orange stitching, it's nearly an exact match to the bezel in the right lightAnyway sorry for the long post, hope you enjoy the pics.
3700 vs. 5711 - vintage vs. new
Evening allAnyone care to share an opinion on the classic nautilus 3700 compared to the modern 5711? I've read a few things online and I'm aware of a few of the major differences (movement, case construction, second hand on the 5711, dial color, print on dial) but just wanted to hear some opinions.I've always loved vintage...LOVE. And though I've never experienced a 3700 in person, I'm sure it is marvelous. Still, as I finalize my purchase of a 5711 tomorrow, I haven't been able to justify the extra 14K or so needed to get a 3700. I'm curious...Do you guys feel, from a wear and/or investment standpoint, one wins over the other?
