IWC Auctions Off Unique Muhammad Ali Watch at Celebrity Fight Night Gala
A unique timepiece by IWC Schaffhausen went under the hammer at the 18th annual Celebrity Fight Night gala last Saturday, held in Phoenix, Arizona. The star-studded event was established to raise funds for the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center, founded by the legendary boxing champ. The watch, a special Big Pilot’s model in white gold made to commemorate Ali’s 70th birthday, fetched $60,000. Click below to see photos from the event and wallpaper images of the watch. The Big Pilot’s Watch Edition Muhammad Ali is modeled on IWC’s historic Big Pilot’s Watch of 1940, with a matte-black dial, an arrowhead index at 12 o’clock, a large crown, power-reserve display at 3 o’clock, and bold, luminescent numerals and hands. On this model, the Super-LumiNova coating on the appliques and hands is in signal red, a favorite color of Ali’s. The red color is echoed on the inside of the black, alligator leather strap. The caseback is engraved with Ali’s s
Sellita Further Targets ETA With the SW300 And SW500 Watch Movements
Sellita helps fill the gap. Offers two more movement ebauches that replace what so many relied upon ETA for. Ebauche - the term refers to a "blank" or un-assembled watch movement. Here is the definition from Wikipedia, "French term (but commonly used in English-speaking countries) for a movement blank, i.e. an incomplete watch movement which is sold as a set of loose parts, comprising the main plate, the bridges, the train, the winding and setting mechanism and the regulator. The timing system, the escapement and the mainspring, however, are not parts of the "bauche."Basically they are watch movement kits that are to be finished, decorated, and assembled by the buyer. These are often sold in wholesale, and are cheaper to purchase than already finished movements (much cheaper).Until recently the biggest provider of watch ebauches was Swiss ETA, owned by the Swatch Group. For the last few years they have been slowly reducing the number of ebauche movements they have been selling to
Off to the spa...
Well ye olde hair spring broke on my 15300...only 3 years since the last movement service. Long enough to be out of warranty. Only choice is a full service...I also opted for a case refinishing. It will be the second as I bought the Watch pre-owned.Afraid I didn't take any before pics. But truth be told, there were only some small dents on the bezel edge and scuffs on the case chamfers and one lug hole. Bracelet had a few scuffs on the brush marks as well. The watch maker gave no warnings of refinishing dangers...So, I figured YOLO...It will be nice to have a new watch in 11 weeks or so!
How tough is an Avenger Blackbird
I bought myself a new Sub earlier this year and love it, wear it all the time when not at work as it's not quite the right look for a cell block and it's nice to have an out of wor watch. However since buying I do sort of now have a bit of a watch thing going on (like joining this forum) and quite fancy a really nice piece of daily workwear. Love the look of these and was wondering how tough is the finish / glass etc on an Avenger Blackbird?
Seawolf Homecoming!
A long lost friend has finally come homeA Breitling Avenger Seawolf GREY Dial. I had one a few years ago and sold it and ever since I had regretted letting it go. I love the matte Grey color and think its one of the best around. I've got a Pro II Bracelet flapping it's way from NYC so the rubber will hold me the rest of the week. I may even try an Ocean Racer on it to see which rubber I'll keep.
