Technical Perspective: Stopping The Whirlwind: Four Tourbillons With Stop Seconds, And Why That Matt
One of the single most important features of watches intended to keep very accurate time is the presence of a stop seconds function. The single most important purpose of the tourbillon – as Breguet originally conceived it, certainly – is to make a watch more accurate. You would think therefore, in a rational universe, that you would see the tourbillon and a stop seconds function paired frequently, if not invariably . . . but you'd be wrong.First of all, let's talk tourbillon. The basic idea behind the tourbillon is pretty simple: it's a solution to a really old problem in watchmaking, which is that a watch will run very slightly faster, or slower, depending on what position it's in. This is mostly due to how gravity pulls on the balance and balance spring in different positions. For example, think of the balance, which has at its center the balance staff (a very, very thin steel pivot). The tips of the balance staff sit inside the holes of two jewels, and wh

Rolex 116520 with 116509 Blue Heaven Dial
I know the purist would be against this idea and would never recommend such a thing but I want to change the look on my Daytona. I got too many black dials so wanted to change the look a little.I am thinking about upgrading the black dial on my 116520 with 116509 Blue Heaven dial.timeandtidewatches/wp-con...845x5502x.jpgI'd also need the WG bezel to complete the look. The only thing that concerns me is the color tone on the WG bezel which is slightly warmer than SS.What do you guys think?
Is it possible to get a discount on a blnr?
So I have decided now to go for a gmt blnr. The question is what should I do in terms of buying it? This time I have chosen to go with an AD but I just can't seem to get any discount even though I'm offering cash. The only way I can theoretically get a discount is by going over the bridge to New Jersey to avoid the 6% tax. is there any chance an ad from a different state would discount and ship? How would I find them? Even at that point though I would lose the tax advantage. I really have no interest at all buying from the grey market, I had a bad first time experience with a preowned and that has given me the mindset that this next watch needs to be from an AD. Has anyone had a recent experience buying a blnr? Thanks.
