TechnoMarine Watches Back On The Block
The build up was intense. Months of teasers and speculation to see what new CEO of TechnoMarine Vincent Perriard would do to the brand that desperately needed a refresh. At the same time, Perriard only had a few months because he was new to the brand - fresh out of his seat at Concord. His task was to release new watches for Baselworld 2010 to be interesting enough for people to notice the brand again. Not an easy task, especially given the molasses like pace of the watch industry. The middle of March was the proving ground - would the new collection have enough appeal to convince enough people the brand was? worth paying attention to again. In the 1990s TechnoMarine was a big deal because it was another "mold breaking" brand. I've discussed this before, but I will again because I think it is important. TechnoMarine opened the doors to modern luxury sport watches. Not that they themselves were super high-end, but the brand revolutionized the concept of who wears sport watches, and when
In-Depth: Le Garde Temps C Naissance D'Une Montre, Greubel Forsey's Mission To Protect Traditional Watchmaking
What would happen if traditional watchmaking techniques died out? For Stephen Forsey and Robert Greubel, this thought was anathema. Their namesake company, Gruebel Forsey, relies on these very techniques to produce timepieces that have become lore among modern collectors. If these techniques die out, then their future, and the future of other high-end independents dies out too. So, to prolong these traditions, they joined forces with Philippe Dufour to create an incubator program for fully hand-crafted watchmaking called Naissance d’une Montre. One watchmaker was selected to be the recipient of what is arguably the finest collective of horological knowledge in existence, endowing him with the skills needed to create a watch, by hand, completely from scratch. 2 OF 6 Stephen Forsey, one half of the duo behind Greubel Forsey, describes the importance of safeguarding traditional watchmaking skills: Earlier this year, I had the chance to speak with Stephen Forsey a
ROO dilemma - Diver for Panda?
Looking for some opinions. Would you trade a Diver on bracelet for a Panda on bracelet? A little backstory -- I've been wanting a Panda since it came out. It's just during the last few months that I grew the cajones to spend money on an AP. I bought the Diver a few weeks ago and added a bracelet. I got it to basically test out the Roo line as I wasnt sure I could live with the size for everyday wear. I figured it would wear almost the same as the chrono and it was a good deal at that time. Grew to love the Diver, but a potential trade for a Panda is possible. So would you guys do it? Unfortunately, I can't have both and saving up and waiting isn't an option (have other responsibilities as the wife says )
