Piaget Kanthara Brings $602,500 at Christie’s New York Sale
This stunning Piaget Kanthara brought a multiple of its pre-sale estimate at Christie’s December 14 sale of fine collector timepieces in New York. Estimated at $200,000 to $300,000, lot 47 realized $602,500 when the hammer came down. Though nearly 400 lots followed, none exceeded the Piaget’s sale price, making it the top piece of the evening. Christie’s sale notes indicate that the Kanthara was produced in very small numbers and in different versions: all diamonds, diamonds with rubies, diamonds with sapphires and diamonds with emeralds.Piaget flew a pair of diamond and emerald set Kanthara wristwatches from Geneva to New York for the glamorous 1996 opening of their first North American boutique on Fifth Avenue. The Kanthara originally was manufactured with diamonds totaling more than 100 carats.See complete sale results at the official Christie’s Web site.
Hands-On: The Ultra-Rare Panerai Bronze 1000 Meter Prototype, Coming Up At Christie's New York T
One of the most unusual watches we’ve seen in a while is this bronze prototype – rated to 1000 meters’ water resistance – made by Officine Panerai in the mid-1980s, as part of a project to develop dive watches for the Diver Corps of the Italian Navy; the watch is going up for auction this week from Christie’s. The story goes that in the early '80’s, Panerai’s chief of mechanical engineering, the famous Mr. Alessandro B

Rolex pricing why some can sell new for more than retail
Hi I havent been here for a while but I do seem to remember reading that Rolex AD have to follow strict pricing and cannot sell for more than retail price no matter how desirable.Which brings me to my story.Last year in Bangkok I had the chance to try on a green submariner from a Rolex boutique it was a great experience in I walk with open toe sandals and shorts and treated extremely well.I asked about the price and they informed me that with green ones they add on an extra 20,000baht which is 500 in uk money. They receive 2 green ones every month they told me that they get what what Rolex gives them. If I only knew how sought after the green ones have become I should have chewed her hand off for it.So moving forward to present day I get my thai contact to enquire about price because now Iam interested right.Almost every shop she called told her that she would need previous purchase history in order to be put on the waiting list which is what Iam experiencing now in the UK. DAMN!!!but
