Eyeing the Dots: The Red Dot Award-Winning Watches of 2015
The Red Dot Awards are international prizes given annually for design excellence in myriad products, from eyeglasses to cars to household appliances. The 2015 winners in the watch category have been announced. (This is the first year that the Essen, Germany-based Red Dot organization separated watches and jewelry into two different categories for judging.)There were two top winners, each earning the title Best of the Best. One was the most famous, most highly publicized, most vigorously hyped watch in history: the Apple Watch. No need to describe it here. The other was made by a company nearly no one outside the watch world has ever heard of: MB&F, or Max Bu?sser & Friends. Its Best of the Best watch was the Horological Machine No. 6 Space Pirate. The watch has five domes: two show the time and two are for, as MB&F describes it, twin sphered turbines that spin horizontally, automatically regulating the winding system in case of excessive speed to reduce wear and tear.
Tissot T-Touch 2 Watch
What do we have here? Doesn't look like a new Tissot T-Touch you say? Well look closer. It is. These are part of the Tissot T-Touch 2 collection of watches, that will secretly replace the original T-Touch models. Actually, the best way to see that they are T-Touch 2 watches is by looking at the LCD screen, and by looking at the back of the watch. I actually didn't have a chance to snap a picture of the back of the watch, but it does say T-Touch 2 back there. The LCD screen is expanded a bit, to look more like that on the T-Touch Expert. The real reason for the new model was because the original T-Touch had some problems with the movement and water resistance. The T-Touch Expert wasn't a replacement because it was bigger and more expensive. So while the T-Touch kept selling well, Tissot was dedicated to releasing a new version that improves upon the original, and resolves the issues that consumers complained about. How do you get a T-Touch 2? Pretty soon Tissot will start to secretly rep
My First Step Into PP
After many years of collecting a variety of watches - mostly Rolex and Panerai, I finally took my first step into this world of Patek, and all I can say is wow. Over the years I have learned many things about my preferences, including a fondness for clean easy to read pieces that error on the sporty side.I spent considerable time in this area of the forum, and I have to say thanks to all of you. I feel like a was able to receive a free education in PP before taking the plunge.Yesterday, was the first day on the wrist, and here it is.[IMG][/IMG]My thoughts after a couple of days:This is the most comfortable watch I have ever owned. With the strap adjusted appropriately, it's hard to tell it is there. The sound of the rotor is mesmerizing. I love it, but I can see it being an issue for some. The rubber strap works. This was my biggest concern, but I wore it with a tie and jacket, and it never looked out of place. The dial is a true pleasure, especially in natural light. You will see t
Patek just announced a late Basel addition... Ceramic Nautilus!!
Gotcha!
Day Date 36mm Too Small
I'm finding 36mm to be too small for a watch these days.I used to love my gold DD 36mm however it just seems too small compared to other watches. With the trend towards watches 40mm or greater I'm wondering if others are finding 36mm to be too small for a gents watch.I love trying on watches and my wrist isn't that big, but when I try on a watch less than 40mm it seems better suited for my wife.
