Hands-On: The Piaget Emperador Coussin XL 700P (Live Pics, Pricing, And A Bit More On Quartz/Mech Hybrids)
There are always a few major surprises at any major watch show, and the Salon this year had a big one. That was the presentation by Piaget of the Emperador Coussin XL 700P, a hybrid quartz-mechanical watch, which we first presented to you as part of our pre-SIHH coverage last December, and which was created, says Piaget, in celebration of its first in-house quartz movement from 1976. Having seen it, at last, “in the metal” at the Salon, we think we can address the questions many of you have, including how it works, and for those of you who are interested in quartz/mechanical hybrids, the question, “is it a Spring Drive?” The answer is both yes – and no. 1 OF 9 The good folks at Piaget must be mighty tired of hearing the words “Spring Drive” by now, although questions about parallel technology are fair. The 700P is indeed very close in most respects to the Seiko Spring Drive. Although there are some differences in execution,
Pic Request - Leather strap on a SM Pro Chrono?
I have just got hold of one of the new Bond SM Pro Chrono's (the one with black face and bezel) and was toying with the idea of putting a leather strap on it Could anyone post some pics and/or give me some info as to where I can obtain such a strap?Cheers
Dress Casual PP 5205r/g vs 5712r?
I had previously expressed a lack of enthusiasm for my 5167r. After more time and a Christmas week at the beach, swimming, riding waverunners, etc. I realize it is a great casual watch - beautiful in the sun and tremendously comfortable and can work for going out to dinner in a resort environment. As a next PP I'm thinking about a 5712r or 5205r (cream dial) for dress casual situations - this would replace a rose gold IWC 3904 chrono classic in my rotation. Am leaning towards the 5205r but wondering if this is too dressy and I tried on the 5712r yesterday and it was very nice and more different from the 5167r than I expected. Also saw the 5205g-010 (black dial) and thought it was striking and with the matte black strap/gray stitching a perfect dress casual piece. However I wear a gold wedding ring and my wife notices when I mix metal. Also wonder if the two tone dial will stand the test of time.Would appreciate thoughts/advice. Happy new year to all.
A few more thoughts on the PepsiC waiting lists
Two businessmen decide to skip their lunch break and hit the links. They are playing quickly to get back to work later that afternoon for a late meeting. However, they end up getting stuck behind two women. One of the men tells the other to wait behind while he volunteers to walk over to ask if they can play through. He gets about half way there before he stops and turns back. Looking sheepishly at his friend the man admits: As I got closer, I realized it was my wife and mistress, he says. You go and ask them instead. The friend absolutely loses it. “Oh man, I knew your life was a mess but how in the world?”“Just go talk to them, would ya?”“Ugh. Fine.”The other one walks over to the women but likewise gets about half way to them before stopping and turning around.Looking just as sheepish as he returns to his friend, the man sighs. Hey, it’s a small world.
