Hands-On with the Mondaine Helvetica 1 Smart Watch
About a year ago, I attended a press conference in San Francisco where Frederique Constant and Alpina announced their newly developed "Swiss Horological Smart Watch Platform". Analogue watches with health tracking capabilities that actually looked like real watches. It was an interesting concept, and a more clever reaction to the incoming "smart watch" genre than slapping a logo on a digital watch. To do this, they had teamed up with MotionX, a Silicon valley company with a lot of experience in the health tracker world. Beyond the functionality, they made sure the watch was made to last longer than typical pieces of tech. It was designed to be efficient, with a 2.5 year battery, and has a modular design where parts of the movement will be able to be upgraded for a small fee. I really liked that they made it, to some extent, have the permanence of a real watch. It's truly a shame that most smart watches will end up in landfills within a few years of their purchase. They also announced tha
Let's talk Volcano
This is a model, in the AP line that is something of a love/hate model isn't it?Friends of mine seem to love it or hate it. I love the model, but since it is a model evoking strong emotions on both side of the +/- spectrum, I'm a bit afraid to take the plunge on one...Orange. It's a strong color no doubt. I've always liked the color orange, as do I like the color yellow. The brighter the better! Like on the FC Diver. Having a splash of color in you live is usually a good thing. Is the Volcano a slow seller? I'm getting a hint it may just be. And down the line if I regret it, it could be another expensive lesson! I guess some of my worries are ultimately down to, will I keep it.... Probably not forever, but I'm a bit afraid it may be a too in your face as something of a daily watch. I try and give equal wrist time to my watches, and right now I feel I'm at that point. No longer like when I still had the AP ROC in white gold that I sometimes didn't wear for months! Silly to keep a 25K (u
Some Nuances on two 15300ST watches from G series!!! Any Thoughts???
So today I decided to have lunch with a good friend that also owns a 15300ST. When looking at our watches we noticed that certain things seem quite odd as there were differences on certain aspects of the watches. Both are G series but mine is earlier than his.1. The flange on his watch has a somewhat different shape than mine. While mine starts more curved and then flat, his is flatter and slightly curved towards the bottom.2. The font on the letter G of his serial seems slightly different to mine. More straight edges and less rounded than mine.3. The letter O on the word Oak engraved on the case back seemed more oval on his and perfectly round on mine. 4. The security engraving on the inside of the last link of the bracelet seemed finer on his than on mine. 5. His is slightly lighter than mine at 134.4 grs vs. 140 grs on mine. Both have the exact same number of links on the bracelet and no visible over polishing on one vs. the other. 6. The sapphire on the case back protudes slightly
Co-axial
HelloDoes anyone have or know anything about the Omega Co-axial Speedmaster (311.30.44.51.01.001) watches?I'm thinking of getting one but I can not find a watch in the UK to look at prior to ordering one. The only storey I have heard is that the watch was unreliable and spent most of it's time at the repairers. Does this watch have a good reliable movement? Many thanks
