Pre-SIHH: Jaeger-LeCoultre Deep Sea Vintage Chronograph
Greetings from Geneva! SIHH 2012 sees the introduction of a new water-resistant watch inspired by the Memovox Deep Sea: the Jaeger-LeCoultre Deep Sea Vintage Chronograph featuring a 40.5 mm case size similar to that of the Memovox Tribute to Deep Sea, which was a hit at SIHH 2011. A fixed bezel surrounds a classic black dial, protected by a Plexiglas crystal. The hour-markers as well as the central hour and minute hands are covered by a Superluminova with a warm orange-tinted shade reminiscent of the luminescent coating on the 1959 Memovox Deep Sea. The time intervals measured by the two-button chronograph are indicated by two counters for the hours and minutes, positioned at 9 and 3 o'clock, as well as by the central seconds hand. The back of the stainless steel case also bears the same engraved motif as the historical model, depicting a frogman surrounded by bubbles. The owner of this watch named it The Vladimir. He was able to call it whatever he liked because he custom commissioned it from Vacheron Constantin. The brand is among the few that will entertain clients who not only want custom watches, but also custom watch movements. This is part of their highly exclusive "Atelier Cabinotiers" department. Do you know what it takes to design, prototype, perfect, manufacture, finish, and test a watch movement? Usually those costs are built into some type of economy of scale. Now think of all that for just one movement. We are talking incredible prices due to all the time and effort involved. Million bucks minimum. I am at a crux in my collection state, where I am trying to decide between a sporty watch or an additional dress/sports watch.The only AP I have now is a 15305OR, and I do not own a PP......yet.I'll post a pic of my collection shortly, but which would you get first, CD or 5712?I haven't even decided on what color Ceramic Diver (thinking black with orange stripe or possibly even white! - dare to be different).
