Swatch Group Acquires Harry Winston Watch & Jewelry
The Swatch Group has added another jewel or, more precisely, jeweler to its crown. The Bienne, Switzerland-based company, which owns watch brands ranging from Swatch to Hamilton to Omega to Breguet, announced Monday that it is acquiring world-renowned jewelry brand Harry Winston, which in recent years has also become a bastion of high watchmaking. In the deal, Swatch Group Ltd. gets 100 percent of the shares of HW Holdings Inc., owner of New York-based Harry Winston, Inc., giving the Group ownership of the brand and all activities related to its jewelry and watches, including its 535 employees worldwide and production company in Geneva, Switzerland. The acquisition sum amounts to U.S. $750 million plus the assumption of up to U.S. $250 million of pro forma net debt. The sale does not include the mining segment of the company, Harry Winston Diamond Corporation, based in Toronto, which will be renamed Dominion Diamond Corporation upon the closing of the transaction. Tudor Pelagos HEV orientation question
Since my last fiasco with the well done fake Pelagos I got off ebay my search has led me to start obsessing over visual clues that would indicate a potential fake out there. My search is focused on the 25500tn as I prefer the 2 liner and the eta movement for ease of service, most importantly it is not as thick coming in under 14mm at 13.8mm (per what research I've found). On to my question - I've noticed the orientation of the HEV text is different on some as opposed to others - any rhyme or reason...or am I over analyzing this? There is one for sale from one of the most notable trusted sellers out there, but the HEV orientation on the particular watch has me hesitant. I know they fully stand 100% behind their products, but after getting burned once I'm cautious on the next purchase. thoughts?
U.S. ADs selling pre-owned above MSRP
An AD that I visit has a small pre-owned section and happened to have a (essentially new) hard to find watch there sold at a mark-up consistent with grey market prices. This particular model was explained as a 2 week old trade in that still appeared to have the stickers on it. Now, I don’t blame them for selling the watch at prevailing market, but in theory, they could basically just put a friends name on the warranty card declare it used, and now sell at the higher price. Not sure if this something Rolex would have a problem with, but just curious how everyone else’s ADs are responding to these secondary market prices we’ve seen over the last year+?
