Certina DS-2 Limited Edition Watch With High-End PreciDrive Movement
Recently, Certina has equipped some of its DS-2 series of watches with its PreciDrive high-end quartz movement?and sent them to battle for a slice of the slowly but surely expanding high-end C or, if you like, high-accuracy C quartz watch segment. There are myriads of different requirements a watch is rightfully expected to meet, but if it is to justify its price tag, it must do at least one of two things. It must either be a truly fine example of what has gone before, or it must possess a saleable quirk into which the marketing department can sink its fangs. We're used to seeing whimsical novelties in the field of mechanical watchmaking, as each year, tens of millions of dollars or more are poured into the discovery, production and refinement of new materials and mechanisms in search of an edge over competitors. Designers are charged with re-imagining classic concepts to generate a slither of market separation.Meanwhile, a significant portion of the lower-end of the luxury market rema
Bulova at Basel: Curves and Space
Bulova came to Baselworld 2016 packing a couple of new, interesting quartz chronographs that left quite an impression. Bulova is very much trying to reinvent themselves these days, looking back at their history of innovation (think Accutron and the world’s first televised ad), adding a new and exciting spark to their design direction. Though they had a lot show at Basel this year, we have two offerings to look at today; one taking a step forward and one a step into the past.Bulova CURVThough they dabble with mechanicals, Bulova mainly produces quartz movement watches. The brand became well known for its Accutron line, which contained the famous tuning fork movement, that lead the way for the quartz technology we have today. Still pushing innovation, they now focus on High Accuracy Quartz (HAQ) movements that few other brands compete with. Now Bulova is looking to make quartz history again with the first curved quartz chronograph movement. The CURV collection of watches boast curv
Still top dog in the collection
Over two months into the ownership of my first ROO, actually first AP and it's still my favourite of all the watches I've owned And we all have our opinions of specific watch cleaning products and I know most favour good old hand soap and a toothbrush but I do like to spoil my watches and love Don's product at Wristclean
INCOMING: from none to two AP in under a week!
Following much great advice and many varying opinions from my fellow TRFers, I just picked up a Diver. I really appreciated everyone's input, and thank you all.To quickly reply to a number of the slightly more serious points made in the thread I started yesterday, Why should I NOT buy a Diver:I do not consider it to be too similar to my 15400...far from it. To me they are no more similar than a Date-Just and a Deep Sea.I do not like the new white dialed Diver, it was always going to be black dialled for me....IMHO it is not correct for a dive watch to have a sapphire case back, and I certainly would not pay extra to have it....also, if ever I feel the need to look at the 3120 movement I'll pick up my 15400....I really don't care if it's ISO 6425 compliant or not.The Euro prices are shooting up rapidly, and I got a good deal....Sorry for the poor pic....I'll try to do better in the next few days......meanwhile...........I think I LOVE AUDEMARS PIGUET!
It finally arrived.....
So, I am finally a member of the Audemars Piguet club.My new watch arrived this morning having been delayed by weather on both sides of the Atlantic. I'm rather busy but of course made time to open the boxes quickly..... I will take it to be sized tomorrow, and then the stickers will awff!My thanks to Darren Reay who sourced and delivered the watch BNIB. He has been a pleasure to deal with.I'll be altering my signature soon!
