My First Grail Watch: Ariel Adams Of watches-dealer
Welcome back to an original watches-dealer feature, "My First Grail Watch." In this series, we ask prominent people in the watch industry about the first timepiece that they lusted after. Today, we've got an interview that's - well, let's call it a belated birthday present for the interviewee.?We're speaking with the man, the myth, the legend - watches-dealer's founder, Ariel Adams.watches-dealer (ABTW): Who are you, and what is your relationship to the watch industry?Ariel Adams (AA): My name is Ariel Adams, and you may have heard of me. I am the founder of watches-dealer and discuss watches in publications all over the world.ABTW: When did your fascination with watches start?AA: I became a "watch guy" when I was about 20 years old, but looking back at my history, I've worn a watch on my wrist since early childhood - sometimes two of them.ABTW: What was your first grail watch?AA: That would go back many years, to the 1980s. The first watch I ever recall really wanting and didn't have
Blancpain Carrousel Minute Repeater Chronograph: First Watch With All Three Complications Together
Being the "brand of the carrousel," Blancpain's use of this close cousin to the tourbillon must someday find its way into anything they produce. Then again, they did recently produce the Carrousel Tourbillon watch (watches-dealer hands-on) that featured both complications in order to help distinguish them. Now, with the new Blancpain Carrousel Minute Repeater Chronograph, we see for the first time all three of the named complications together in one watch.Having built a solid foundation with the carrousel, first seen in the Blancpain Carrousel Volant Une Minute in 2008, and being no stranger to grand complications in general, Blancpain's latest creation showcases the brand's ability to design and execute the type of watch that elevates the watchmaker to the level of an artist. The carrousel is Blancpain's signature complication, as they are the only brand that has actively promoted and presented it to the market. A close cousin to the more common tourbillon, it goes about doing the same
Advice needed on first AP
I am very close to buying my first AP and I could not be happier. I have decided on the 15400 in white or blue; however, I am trying to justify paying full price for the blue dial with a 5 year boutique warranty vs. getting a nice discount at an AD for the white dial. Can anyone recommend an AD that could help with a discount on the white dial? It is worth noting that my current collection does not include a white or blue dial anymore. Also, this will be a daily wearer. Thank for your thoughts!Ryan

What do you tell your friends
So I wore the 5167 out on the town on Friday night for some drinks and dancing with friends. In doing so, I created some interesting dance moves to keep people from banging into my watch lol. But anyways, one of my friends was noticing my attire and asked what kinda shirt/pants/shoes I was wearing...then he noticed the watch and asked what kind of watch it was. After I mentioned it was a Patek, having no idea what it was, he asked... and how much was it? My question is, do you guys tell people how much your watches really cost, or do you tell a little white lie to keep from alienating them? I hate getting the statements like why would you buy something like that? or if I had that money I would....blah blah blahIm pretty sure Im not the only one who has to deal with this...so what do you guys do?
