Why does it seem that all the watches we love are priced like a year of tuition at an Ivy League college? It wasn't always this way.For more years than I care to remember, I've been collecting watches. Also, being a fourth generation watchmaker and retail jeweler, I've had the privilege of being an authorized dealer for several high profile watch companies including IWC, JLC, Ulysse Nardin, to name just a few. I've also had the distinction of watching the death of the mechanical wristwatch in the 1970's, the birth and dominance of the Japanese quartz watch shortly thereafter, and the resurrection of the modern Swiss mechanical watch in the late 1990's. But even though I've been brought up in the business and have a historical viewpoint of the industry, I'm still sticker shocked by today's prices.Whenever I see a really great watch that I covet in a magazine, or on a great blog like this one, or in an uptown watch store, I'm always amazed at how expensive the watch is. Speedmaster Bezel INSERT Removal...?
Can the black bezel insert be removed from the metal bezel ring...?I know Omega usually sells this as a unit -- but if the metal ring needed a minor repair, could the insert first be removed?

I bought an Omega Samaster GMT from eBay, when it arrived, the watch looks good and keeps perfect time, but the crown is broken and does not screw down. I wrote to the seller, he did not understand what I meant, he says he timed it and it works perfect, but as we all know a seamaster that is not waterproof is useless.I sent the text below as the last reply, written as simply as possible and then translated on line into Italian. I wonder if some one could help me by translating it correctly into Italian.The watch functions. The problem is the crown. On Omega Seamaster it must screw onto the case to make the watch water proof. This part is broken. I took the watch to official Omega in Malaga yesterday, the cost to repair is minimum of 300€ plus tax.Thanks in advance for the help!
